Pro tools is now owned by AVID and is the worldwide standard for pro Audio. Id look at that.
It depends on if you want a pro app or an childs toy (like FCPX)

Just to add in guys.
I too have found FCP AND AVID to be “troublesome” when it comes to capturing HDV generally. HDV is regarded as a bit of a donkey in this respect anyway.
Ive had periods where it will cap fine and then times where it just keeps dropping out, for no adjustable reason often.
What DID make a 100% improvement was using a proper HDV deck rather than a camera. Camera transports just arent up to it IMHO. Then previously troublesome tapes were fine.
HDV split does seem a LOT more tolerant to HDV tapes inadequacies AND the files it produces fast import into AVID.

I dont know why this should happen. previous post seems possible. However i DO know that AVID will want to help you as much as possible in getting it to work 9as an FCP to AVID switcher.
If you dont get it sorted soon, come back and Ill send you an email address of someone really helpful at AVID who will make it happen.

have you trid doing a video mixdown in avid, putting it in a new seq and then exporting a qt ref straight into dvd.
I d go staright in with a qt ref file, but as it AMA linked media you will prob need a mixdown (new internally stored madia)

In Cool edit pro (now adobe audition, you can do a batch process conversion to whatever.
Obviously pro tools and pro solutions like it can do this very easily as well.

Pro tools will be happy with an h264, motion Jpeg A type, DV pal,
surely this isnt the 1st time hes used video in his rig. He must know its preferences.

Hi
I do this.
1) create a timeline with ALL cameras assembled on a new track each, against the audio tracks if i have one. spend time getting this sync right. Use a cam flash or clear moment like a clapper
2) Dont use track 1. Keep this clear for later.
3 ) Mark in at start and out at 1st break point on any track
4) Go to in
5) Match frame then create subclip into a bin. (I map match frame and create subclip to F2 and F3 for speed.
6) Do this for each camera track say 2,3 &4
7) When all done, select top subclip in bin down to bottom subclip in bin so ALL cameras subclips from this timeline portion are selected. (Use shift + click.)
8) Click “shift +CTRL +U” (I think) to make group. (Use tc in default)
9) drag this group from bin to play monitor.
10) mark in at head and out at tail.
11) edit into track 1 (this is why you kept it clear.
12 ) Now go to end of subclip in timeline and mark in and re perform steps 3-12.Seems like a lot but you soon get a rhythm and it can be done quite quickly. When your timeline is complete id duplicate it (for safety,) then remove the camera tracks leaving just the group clips. Select multicam from menu and vision mix away. You can vm clicking the splitscreen monitors or i prefer to map the cameras to buttons to vm on the keypad.

I will agree with Jean Christophe, but will add that really anyone who records an interview in such a way really should not be surprised at the audio quality resulting. Dont waste time on it. Youre on a loser really.
