This is a potentially interesting one. My Hollywood edge and sound ideas libraries weren’t bought by me but were part of a studio take over / buy out. I’m pretty sure our studio wouldn’t show up as a ” client” yet we did buy legit !!!!

Omg. You have a wedding TOMORROW and today you’re asking basic audio questions about your kit.
Good luck!! Don’t the bride and groom rather (have a right ) to presume you know how to do the basic stuff?

Clearly you haven’t switched from the inbuilt mics to the external plug in mics. I don’t have a h1 so can’t help here but find it before tomorrow, and make sure you match the sample rate and bit depth of the zoo. To that of your camera or its sync will drift.

To me, checking the zooms recordings after takes is totally un workable.
Either the takes are very short, say 20 secs each, in which case checking is feasible but there will be so many, it will become unworkable.
Or the takes are so long – say 20 mins each in which case you can check the take is there, but not all of every take. The problem area will be in the middle of a take and youll miss it.

If the level of this project is such that a zoom and checking scenario is a possibility, then just transmit the sound using a G3. The quality will be abosolutely fine. At least that way you can constantly monitor your recordings.

Youd know if you had AMA files.
When importing the pictures into AVID youd go
Link to AMA Volume or AMA file.
Ie youve not actually imported ANY video into avid. Avid is merely playing the source files from their stored HD location. You cant do a ref file of ama linked material (yet).

A Quicktime reference does just that. It references the media. it doesnt contain any video or audio, it just tells the system where to find the media to play at any given moment. (and it cant be LONG GOP either.)

I dont know the zoom device youre talking about but if the meters said the input was good,what did your ears say. Cances are you were overloading the input electronics. could you not drop the input gains down. On my Zoom H4n i have to drop the input gains to 0.7 to get a correct level from a -18dbfs reference tone at line level.
Theres prob nothing wrong with it at all. id play with it some more.
Whatever way id not expect to get much / anything better for under £100.

I can’t tell you that they have brilliant different micing techniques , but I can tell you that a LOT of the dialogue is re recorded or ADR’d in the studio. Indeed I have spent the last week doing little else.
It’s trick and time consuming but happens a lot.

Also they do use personals and boom multi tracked but often a scene will be shot 1st wide but then again and again picking up singles and 2 shots. Clearly The boom can get in much tighter on the singles etc and this audio will usually be used over the wider material as actors at that level ought to be pretty consistent.

You cant do that.
You can have 1 transmitter being picked up by 2 receivers but not 2 transmitters to 1 receiver.

I have found in my encore cs 5.5 that the automatic settings are lower field first and can’t be changed.
How I do it is create DVD compliant files outside encore in Sorensen squeeze and import those, then select don’t transcode. Squeeze also makes me an ac3 file for the audio.

I’d think a DVD from a timeline that long could look poor. Have you thought about making a dual layer DVD.

I dont agree that lavs necessarily sound bad. Just dont burry them.
Cos11 for me too.
I think it all depends on the quality of the mic youre using.

yes ive seen bitrate calculators etc, but a calc cant possibly know what menu and sub menu and graphics exist in the dvd authoring project, Its that value befor evido im trying to find. Some authored projects are a lot more complex than others so it must impact on space – or is that insignificant.
