Yes I heard today that the price for the 2/3″ will be quite low, but I assume that doesn’t include a VF. Maybe sales pressure from Panasonic and (down the track) Grass Valley have forced the price down.

No, it’s a little left of field for me for everyday use. Great for music clips, commercials and indies. I need something more conventional for my work, plus I have a $45K HD 2/3″ lens which suits EFP work.

I have a SDX900E PAL (It’s also for sale if anyone’s interested) The CCD is 600,000 pixels and it is this PAL chip that is being used in the new HPX500 with some mods. I’m not sure about the NTSC version of the SDX but I think it is 520,000 pixels.

But then if you host unload to the laptop first, then transfer to the Raid, that’s two transfers as well. I think? 😉

Nice points Jeremy. Taking 750gb’s or the new 1tb drives if available would be better for traveling. As long as the file naming system works in the HPX2000 so you don’t get duplicate file names every day after the cards are wiped.
The just have a nice padded Pelican for shipping. The soundo or producer could keep one set as you say, while on location. Probably safer than a single set of camera tapes.
With host mode, I could dub off say 70gb to the first drive, then plug it and a second drive and do a copy. Same result as a RAID, but maybe it would be slower?

The trick would be to have a USB 2.0 connection rather than Firewire, then I could use the host mode of the HPX2000 to dump directly to the enclosure. I suppose the RAID-1 would have to be set up on a laptop first. Not sure what the implications are using host mode to transfer material out of the camera to a stand-alone RAID box.
On a 21 day shoot, I’d end up with over forty hard drives which has me pretty concerned from a workflow point of view.

CS3 will run nicely on Vista 32, but I had hassles with Vista 64 regarding the Decklink drivers. There aren’t any. But DV is probably fine. The other weird thing (at least for me) is that I can’t install Squueze or Procoder 2.0 on my Vista system. The install setup program stalls on Procoder and when Squeeze is installed, there qare no compression presets available. Might be something to do with Windows Media Runtime 11.

[Nigel Cooper] “This information is all wrong. Sony ARE going to announce a 2/3rd XDCAM HD camcorder. It is this new 2/3rd model that is 50Mbps and 4:2:2 colour space, but no variable frame rate.
The new 2/3rd camera is still 4:2:0 colour and 35Mbps, but it does take the new 50GB discs as it has dual-focus laser.”
I can’t find info of a 2/3″ XDCAMHD camera in Sony’s press releases.
