April 16, 2007 at 5:48 pmI for one am particularly interested in ProRez for getting our footage out of HDV for editing.
Hopefully Blackmagic will get on board.
Ofcourse this all depends on how ProRez stacks up against DVC Pro HD but something tells me that it will mop the floor with it.
Can’t wait to see some comparisons.

April 17, 2007 at 2:17 amHi Bob,
We’ve been working on a driver release to support the ProRes codec and it will be released hot on the heels of Apple’s Final Cut Studio 2 release in May.
The Apple ProRes 4:2:2 codec is a wonderful 10-bit compressed codec from Apple. We think it looks great and have been testing it with our products for some time now. If you drop by Apple’s stand at NAB, you can see the Blackmagic ProRes easy setups on the demo pods.
The codec is installed by Apple’s new Final Cut Studio 2 so you’ll need to upgrade to their new software and you’ll also need our new drivers to support the new software suite. Final Cut Studio 2 and our new drivers are due out in May.

Yes, we will support the ProRes codec in our next driver release which will occur very shortly after Final Cut Studio 2 starts shipping in May.

April 18, 2007 at 12:01 amHi Justin,
Unlike HDV, the ProRes codec is a full resolution (1920 x 1080) codec so I think you will like it as you mentioned you want to move away from the HDV codec.
It’s fun that we’re able to deploy this codec throughout our product range from the Multibridge Eclipse and DeckLink HD series cards to the $249 Intensity card 🙂
