I’m getting crashes to desktop as soon as I launch CS5. Not sure if it’s the new Mac drivers or not.

January 26, 2011 at 1:33 pm in reply to: nanoflash or aja mini kipro for panasonic varicam model H ?Nanaflash can capture 25P (but only audio via the unbalanced input) from the tape-based Varicam. Ki Pro Mini can’t, but I’m hoping this will change.

This whole Apple, RED silence thing is very weird… The Ki has been advertised for months in trade mags, but Aja has made no comment on what the hold-up is. I assume something is not quite right with the design and/or manufacturing process.

Tim,
The NanoFlash will work in 25P VFR mode with the Varicam. I sold my Nano when the Ki Mini was announced but now regret it as the Ki doesn’t have that functionality. The only thing is you have to run audio from the Audio Out (or headphone jack) into the Nano to get sync sound. But I’m think of getting another Nano to work with my Varicam and AF102.
I did have an issue with firing the NanoFlash because of the wierdo T/C from the 60Hz/25P Varicam. There was a very slight delay intil the Nanao started recording, but I think this was being looked at by the CD guys.
[Tim Maloney] “Hi Chris,
I would like to have that functionality as well.
I would pay over the RRP to support full Varicam functionality, I know the camera has some unusual characteristics in the Post Path but its supported on the Kona three so why not port that functionality over to the Ki Pro Mini?
There would be thousands of Varicams around the world given a second life not to mention many sales of Ki Pro Mini to those Varicam owners…
I just sold my ingest 1200VTR for the Varicam to free up cash for a Ki Pro Mini.
Here’s hoping, AJA is famous for listening to their customers.

I hope the rumour of a large sensor Varicam is true. I don’t think the 3700 trade-in deal is operating. It’s only the 2700.

[Matt Lyon] “Man, who would’ve guessed 15 years ago that today Apple would be setting record profits and Premier would no longer be a POS 🙂
But performance aside, which do you prefer cutting with?

Toronto”I have to say I find CS5 faster and the ability to auto update Premiere graphics/FX while working in Photoshop or After Effects is brilliant. There are still some features I dislike about Premiere, but overall I find it faster and easier to navigate, particularly if you remap common keyboard commands like default transitions, next/previous edit, etc for your left hand. I also think Final Cut’s “monochromatic” GUI don’t help my way of working. (Don’t flame me!). I do wish Apple would release a kick-ass update to Final Cut. They really are like molasses at the moment in pro apps.

There’s no doubt that if you have the Mercury Engine enabled, Premiere will render faster than FCP with the same files. We use CS5 and FCP on the same Mac pro, and have now switched 95% of production to CS5. Sequences which will play in real time with Premiere just will not play without rendering in FCP.
We are using AJA LHe/Quadro FX4800 with P2 AVC-Intra, and just applying the simplest filter or Magic Bully/BCC effect will stop FCP, but not PPro. That said, I’m still glad we are able to use both Final Cut and Adobe on the same Mac Pro. We have the best of both worlds on the one system.
