[Pentti Kakkori] “Do you have Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration on?
Toggle Mercury Playback Engine Software Only before rendering, it should help.”

Thanks Pentti, I do have GPU assista on for my FX4800 card. I’ll try that.

Thanks Kevin, as I advance frame by frame on a dissolve between black and a clip (or in reverse) the image abruptly cuts out near the end of the faded instead of continuing to fade away to zero opacity. It’s like it needs another frame or two of image at a lower opacity before it fases completely.

I’m using the standard dissolve drag-and-drop transition or the opacity handles. I get the same result either way. What is the “film dissolve”?

    Thanks Kristian,
Can any SSD be used on the deck, or are there recommended ones?

June 14, 2011 at 9:50 am in reply to: How does Resolve interface with Adobe CS5.5?

Ohh…. I think your comments about Premiere are disingenuous. It is so much more than the belittling comments you give it. We use it on network television commercials every day. Where do I start? The integration with After Effects and Photoshop is outstanding, as is the Inscriber-derived character generator, and the Mercury render engine, which is amazingly fast. Something Avid and Apple cannot do.

But saying that, CS5 is not perfect and I still use use Final Cut Pro on a weekly basis. Reading thread responses such as these really irks me.

I’d love to hear why it’s like iMovie, “it works out of the box, but you have to stay in its boundaries.” If I’m working with an iMovie clone, then I must be really dumb doing the sort of work we do.

I wasn’t asking for a critique on Premiere, but whether Resolve will integrate with it.

    Thanks Alex,

Just weighing up whether to spend the money (as cheap as it is) on the HyperDeck or put it towards a SD PIX240 or similar. The unit is cheap but the SSD’s will cost more than the recorder. But then the entry price is sssssoooooooo attractive.

  • I spoke with the Spicemaster people last week and they reaffirmed that they won’t be porting the app to Mac. I too am desperate for a decent transition package for CS5.5 and Mac. I have Boris Continuum and Magic Bullet but need something like Spicemaster. Any vendors out there?

How did you get on John? I’m having some issues too with a 2009 octocore with CS5.5, 16gb RAM and Blackmagic Extreme HD card. Similar 8tb RAID to yours.

After doing a short amount of editing/chroma keying with 1080 MXF files (I too got the file not supported message), the viewers can go black and not update or output to the external SDI. I’m wondering if PPro is hogging all the RAM and I may need to up it to 32gb.

May 26, 2011 at 10:26 pm in reply to: Where are the official CS5.5 drivers?

I tried the beta drivers but had constant crashing with CS5.5 (can’t complain as they’re beta I guess). But I got so frustrated I pulled the AJA LHe out and replaced it with a new Decklink HD Extreme 3D which had 5.5 drivers available now.

I didn’t want to do that, but we had struggled through a new AJA project set up in 5.5 and I didn’t want to go back and reinstall 5.03 and start again on the edit.

It’s a shame as I didn’t want to go and blow a grand on a Decklink card but…. if there had been a note on the AJA website saying 5.5 drivers are not available at present, I would have left the CS5 upgrade alone for a bit and stuck with the AJA card which we’ve been using for the past couple of years.

I don’t think this will work as the Varicam is outputing 60fps even in “PAL” mode.
