I just think giving it away for free is a bit silly. I mean they already made the price very affordable at 995. Why do they need to give a full functioning version (with the few limitations) for free? I personally do think it does devalue the product when you can get it for free. I can understand a 30day free trial.. but a full HD grading DaVinci for free. How can they continue to develop and advance the product if they erode their paying base of customers? Blackmagic is a confusing company sometimes.. exciting but confusing.

I have been wondering this same question. Also once you are done graded and rendering, can you export another AAF to get the cut back into the Avid for final assembly?

I agree. I really hope that Tangent will add support for the CP100. It is a great board and would be a great fit with the Resolve. I need more than the Wave.. but can’t afford the Blackmagic panel right now.

I heard back from Tangent today and they still say that at this time they are not planning on doing any more support on the CP-100. Very disappointing. Maybe if we keep pestering them, they will keep the panel alive.
I guess for them it’s not worth the time further developing the CP-100. They would rather you buy a CP-200 (or even a Wave?). Maybe if we keep asking them. Or if we collect some money and send it to them it might help pay their programmer to do the Resolve development.

This would be great to know. I guess we have to bug Tangent about it. Are there any CP-100 users out there? I know it is an older product, but they still have it on their website and I see it still being sold. Anyone out there want to start a petition to get Tangent to support all their panels on Resolve?

Thanks for the email Roli. On this project the client wants to stay uncompressed.
I know that uncompressed requires much faster drives than Prores does. But from what I have read, if I am getting over 300MB/sec it should be ok for 1080p/23.98 video. Did I mis-calculate here?
I also know that a G5 is pretty old. But Prores would be harder on the CPU than uncompressed right? (Because it has to constantly un-compress and re-compress as it goes out through the Kona 2 card.)
I feel like this system should be able to handle this playback. Or am I missing something here?

I have checked the render settings. The codec is the ‘same as sequence codec’. Under ‘video processing’ it is set to ‘Render 10-bit material in high-precision YUV’. Are those the correct settings to be able to export a QT reference?
I still could not get the QT reference to work. The solution I used for this export was to try ‘export using compressor’. I used that option and broke up the sequence into a few parts. Using that option, I was able to get compressor to create my MPEG2 files for the DVD. I figured it would be faster that was than doing the long full QT export and then bringing that into compressor to make the MPEG2 files.
Still really frustrating that I could not get the QT reference to work.

I am in the same situation here and was looking for a little help. I’ve read through this thread and tried the ideas presented. I still get dropped frames when I playback.
In my case I have a 90min timeline, 1920×1080, 23.98p, Uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2, 2 tracks of audio (16bit 48khz AIFF’s). I am just trying to play back to my standalone dvd burner (Since I can’t get quicktime references to export). Dropping frames at various points in the timeline. Very Frustrating since I think it should not be happening. I also have a fully rendered timeline (only some dark blue lines in the render bar area).
Can anyone shed any light on this one? I did a clean wipe of my system about 2 months ago and did a fresh install of Final Cut Studio 2 (I’m on 6.0.6). I have a G5 – Dual 2.5 CPU’s, 8GB of ram. My drive system is a RAID 5 with a 4 drive stripe, connected via SAS to a Highpoint RAID card.
When I run the AJA disk speed tool, I get around 305 MB/sec. when I look at the graph, the read speed is very consistent. I have about 15-20% space free on the RAID. I did try to trash the prefs and repair disk permissions on my C: (boot) drive.
Can anyone help please??

good point. But I did make sure when I did my rendering that all the check marks were activated (needs render, rendered proxy, proxy, preview, full, and unlimited).
So I’m pretty sure I have a fully rendered sequence. No HDV or anything like that going on. Everything is in the Uncompressed 10bit codec. argh… very frustrating.

So I did a little more testing. I opened a new project and tried to import the XML’s into that project. Worked great! Back to my original project… still won’t import the XML’s. Corrupt project? How does a project get like this? If FCP crashes.. it might be stuck in a corrupt state?
should I create a new project and copy everything over? At least I have narrowed down the problem a bit…
