OK, we’ll try to play out from DV tape to the DVD deck, but it seems like FCP detects that it isn’t a VCR/deck that are on the end, and then it “blocks” the firewire signal

I’ve just installed it for one of my customers, and at first he had an ATI Radeon graphic card with 512 MB RAM, and it all work.
Since then he has used another (smaller) graphic card (NVIDIA GeForce with 256 MB RAM), and then all menus in AE is greyed out.
Strange. Has anyone seen this before, and any ideas to a solution ?

Oh yes, that’s also why I’m looking for some alternatives with disks that run 10K rpm and fibre with 4 Gb, instead of Apple’s 7.200 rpm and 2 Gb

Thank’s for Your replies, and I can see I wasn’t clear enough in my description:
We need to work on the same files from the different machines, so as I understand it need to be a fiber RAID, and as You mention, then it have to be a file based SAN.What do You mean with “XSR” ? Do You mean the XSan software, or ..?
The initial system is only 3-4 TB, but afterward we needs more space, and that also why we would prefer a scalable system.
I’ll look at Tiger’s, the description looks good, but otherwise I have a non-logic preference for Apple’s own hard- software, even that XSan SW demands a Metadata controller 😉

The film is scanned to 24P, and are needed to be up-conversed to 25P for broadcast purpose. I know that there has been some problem where the conversion just play slower, so there afterwards are a sync problem, but that was before Cinematools ver. 3.1.1 , which on the paper looks better.
How had You made the conversion from 24P to 25P ?
Will it be better to edit in 24P, and first at the end made the up-conversion ?
We are thinking of using a Kona3 card, but do You have any recommendations ?

There was a thread that solved the problem (the video playback was set to the monitor resolution, where it should have been set to timelines resolution).

Yes, H264 is a part of MPEG-4, called MPEG-4 layer 10. You can encode to this with QT Pro ver. 7 (it demand ver. 7 to encode/decode), and an alternative could be MPEG-4 standard, which is included in QT 6. One of the best encoder is Sorenson Squeeze, which supply some further features, and can be highly recommended if You need high quality/encoding workflow.

I only have the QT 7 standard, but I can try to install the pro version, and see if it helps.
