FileSalvage pretty much found the same things my other data recovery app did. So still no joy
It’s bizarre – I just don’t get it – makes no sense
Recapturing footage is going to be a new experience for me. Hopefully it won’t be cause for much grief.
I have a feeling I captured at the wrong frame rate anyway – not as daft as it may initially sound, but still a bit stupid, sure. I captured a standard def dv tape, so set up as PAL 25fps. However, it’s a super8 footage so should be, probably 24fps
I guess I’d need to tell FCP that it’s progressive too?
Some testing needed. I’m learning a lot 🙂 ha ha

I’ve now run a deeeeeep scan. It’s found loads of deleted files (deleted months ago), but NONE of the capture files that went missing this afternoon

Just tried a data recovery app to no avail
I have only one location for scratch and capture and I know exactly where that is because I’ve use it had to find it for use in after effects too.
Oh well. Thank god the deadline is not today! Small mercies

Incidentally – the files went into the ether during an export for soundtrack (yes that’s how close I was to being done). error message “There was an error exporting”…. then back to the project window and all files showing as “media offline”
If this means anything to anyone I’d like to hear your thoughts

mmm… seems to have been a GFX card issue. I think quartz was enabled. Anyway, disabling it seems to have sorted it

I haven’t shot the video yet – but using a common timecode is not available to me given my resources. However, each bit of video I shoot does give me ‘Date Created’ info on the mac
Also, each bit of AUDIO gives me ‘Date Created’ info too
So, I think the solution is to use this ‘Date created’ info – it’ll act almost like a timecode. The mac can be set to reveal the ‘date created’ in finder down to the millisecond. May be I can use something like quickeys to extract the ‘Date Created’ info and convert it to a h:m:s:f format.
Can I paste a clip (audio or video) onto the timeline to a position based on the timecode of the clip?
Is there an easier way to extrapolate the ‘Date Created’ info into timecode info for a piece of footage?
Perhaps there’s a smart way to create an EDL based on the audio in Logic and it’s ‘date Created’ info? – Logic has no apparent way to export an EDL and exporting an XML will only bounce all audio as one aif file

Damn, sorry – I obviously didn’t make myself clear
Like the video I linked to, I’m filming a ‘making of’ type thing. Clearly, the audio heard in the first part of the video is taken from the cam mic, but from 14secs the audio is from the music. He’s not miming, nor was the music created after the fact.
Like Stocco from the youtube clip, I’m filming the music making process.
Crucially, I need to locate the bit of Video footage that correlates to the audio that made it into the finished piece of music.

I guess this is not necessarily a FC only issue, but I couldn’t see where else it would be appropriate.
Is there’s a better place for it, please let me know
