What does one do? Render without titles, de-interlace and do Titles over that?

Transcode the footage with a de-interlace, then reconnect media in the new format – re-apply denoiser to the new progressive footage?

I’m not sure of the best practice/policy here

I spoke to the telecine op and I think he said that it first went to digibeta before being transferred to dv tape PAL

I hope that’s what you wanted to know. It’s all a bit new to me so forgive the ‘Holes’

It’s Super8 footage that’s been transfered to dv tape PAL. So I guess no – it’s interlaced

It’s the Magic Bullet denoiser and has helped a lot with the interior footage.

I suspect that the denoiser is not happy when I tell it that the sequence has no field dominance if the footage is actually interlaced.

I wish it had been transferred progressive. Would it be worth de-interlacing?

These are the setting I used with the edit.

If I set the field dominance to ‘none’ it looks great, but the denoiser I used seems to need this set to ‘lower’ to run – in fact a setting of none causes FCP to crash because of the denoiser. Unless I’m doing something wrong here? Which is very possible 🙂

Oh – and the movement isn’t very smooth. Any thoughts on that?

Something’s not right – it doesn’t seem to be having any effect. Text is still a bit ‘Liney’ and unclear. Even using a motion project to generate text is giving me the same results

And as for 8bit UC. Well, excuse my ignorance but I don’t know what that means and I can’t seem to find any setting pertaining to it either

I spoke to the telecine op and he just speeds the 24fps super8 to 25. Which would explain how the one bit of action that is synced to the music drifted out of time a little 😀 I thought it was just the super8 cam deviating a little

Search for movies hadn’t occurred to me – but alas… no

The Super8 was shot at 24fps not 18. I shot it – it was great fun. It’s for a music video that will have a screening in London next friday, if any of you are around? 🙂

It features the 2 guys from the band (called incidentally – The Title Sequence) having some fun on their ‘Payday’. A couple of sunny days here in London, a vintage clothing store, a retro bowling lane, a multi storey car park and plenty of shots of a mini cooper

Sorry – a bit shameless I know, but did I mention it was so much fun?

I’m completely stumped by this, but recapture will be fine I’m sure

I’ve heard of QT cutting of bit’s of audio before, but this was a while back

You might try adding a few slug frames to the beginning of the sequence.

Ok, so I looked up pulldown and telecine 🙂

So I probably haven’t messed up, but I need to check. I think (if I’m correct) it’s likely that the tapes I’ve received are PAL 25fps as I’m in Britain. Some experimentation will probably yield answers

Is it possible to capture 24fps as 25fps i.e. The dv cam spat out the footage at 25fps because that’s how FCP asked for it? And now I just have footage that’s playing back 4% faster?
