Yes, Sometimes when things go wrong I start a new project completely. Occcasionally the whole program will be corrupted and you have to reloadit.

    Thats typical Encore.
Encore is a terrible program to run.
It throws secret files all over the place.
I save all my Encore files in a separately pre prepared C drive file.
This is a non transferable [ to other drives ] file.
Print your DVDs and if [ when ] Encore fails you go back to disc VOBS for reprints.

Encore has produced DVDs that sometimes work and sometime don’t. https://www.vimeo.com/user451776
In my opinion DVD technology is a disaster.
You could consider giving your clients USB clips.

All DVD will be gone in a few years.

  • First make a quality Mpeg of your 4:3 project.
    Then what I do,
is start a NEW 16:9 project,
and then import the 4:3 project.
Import into a different bin to your new project so as not to mess up sequences and so on.

From now on stick with the 16:9 project.
Be careful about your labeling so you know what is what.

Now, Get the 4:3 project into the timeline and arrange it best by pixel formations { down here we convert pixels to 1.33 for 720 by 576 ]

or alternatively within “Effects control” or standard effect “Motion” [ switch of scale control ] and change the scale so the 4:3 Mpeg fits in the way you want.
Sometimes I make photoshop frames in yellow colours to check the dimensions .
Then render and check it out.
It should work, I have to do it all the time.

This is a common problem for me.
I actually expect failure of recognition between Camera and Premiere.
Make sure your Premiere project is a new project.
Twiggle Camera between on and off.
    Also twiggle fire wire connections.
Also be prepared to close down and start up computer.
If necessary after failure get new fire wire connection.
In my opinion Premiere does have difficulty recognising devices.

    All too true,
I have been working with a 1080i PAL camera, and going back over old work I did in 2006.
That is mini tape recorded in 1080i PAL but edited in PAL 720 by 576 pixels; admittedly in 16:9 arrangement, but still frightful to look at when compared to 1080i, or 720p.
Now, I ask myself, what was it that made me think that it was OK to download 1080i to SD PAL 720 by 576, but the only answer is , go back and start again from mini tapes .. but I couldn’t face it.

For me now I want to retain film integrity right through.
Look at these various speed cameras we have at good prices.

Question to you … before the end comes.
Can I download very old VHS tapes to say 720p or 1080i.?
I know what you think, that they have no definition anyway: but it is analog isn’t it? .. and I would like to convert to HD and see what it looks like.
And I would be able to use the pixels.
