I believe R8 has pretty much this exact function. At NAB they showed a “force conform” option which would force a clip into a un-linked placeholder in the conform page. It will help with any of these types of problems when we want to just say FO EDL, just link this clip to this EDL event.

After picking up my jaw, which had dropped to the floor after seeing the demo at NAB, I asked Peter C. about any audio improvements. He will likely pop in and provide more detail/correctsions, but to paraphrase him “This new release is all about video. Audio works the same as in version 7.x. Now that version 8 is almost out, we can think about audio improvements to match.”

I’m at NAB and spent time looking through the update. Blown away. Personally, I am not the least bit threatened by the free version. There is so much more that we can do in the full version, and for DPs to be able to set a basic look on set with the same tool cannot be anything but good. I can hardly believe just how much BM has added to what we all have been wishing for. Keying, HDRx blending, motion smoothing, RGB mixing, multi-track, XML!!!!, blending modes, and many more. way to go BM. It felt good to shake Peter C’s hand.

Just to close the loop here. I purchased an HP 580T desktop PC and it works great with Ultrascope. I did have to add a qualified video card.

Well I’m glad that its “what it is” and not an anomaly. Guess I’ll have to get out my tools and build a box for it. I’m not sure what the engineering team could do to lower the noise (quieter fan perhaps) as it seems pretty baked into the design.

Hi Rohit,
Thanks so much for posting this. I have been trying to figure out what the process is for backing up the projects, and the manual really provides no love there. I will say that its a little odd to me that I have had to dig through message threads on the cow to find a link to your tech bulletin though. The only thing I’d been able to figure out before finding it is to do project exports at the end of the day.
This makes me wonder what other gems of wisdom you have in other tech bulletins or “best practice” PDFs that I have not thought to look for or known to even. I wonder if it might be possible for a library of such things could be posted in one place either here on the cow or somewhere on the BMD site? That would be a fantastic resource for the many like me who are working through the Resolve learning curve without the benefit of a mentor or formal training in the tool.
For now, thanks again for posting the pdf. I can rest a little easier knowing that the entire DB is backed up.

OK, so just to prove your point, I sent bars and I believe you are correct. You might take a look just to be sure. I’m just not used to the strong vertical scans. They don’t look like I am used to seeing on my Tektronix nor the software scopes in FCP or Color or DaVinci…hence my thinking there was a problem.

RE the motherboards, I’m glad to hear that Ultrascope isn’t that finicky. Your approved hardware list states not to use a X58 nor a Dell. Without much info on why. So without that info, its hard to know what to avoid.

Thanks Callum. I downgraded my ATI drivers and software to your recommended 10.2 and the display artifacts have greatly improved, but not disappeared. Since things are so close to usable, I’ll see if there is any other improvements possible…Attached is a new screen grab:
ultrascopedisplayarifacts2.jpgThe scopes area -almost- usable, except for the streaky verticals, which make fine grain evaluation pretty difficult. Those do not appear when viewing the same frame on the Davinci scopes nor on my Techtronics scope.
I noticed that BHVideo has an HP Pavilion P6630F turnkey system. If I am unable to use my current PC for perfect ultrascope displays, would there be any reason that I should -not- expect quality ultrascope display on this low-cost PC? Its priced at $600 which would make a wonderfully affordable system to for scopes. I use the scopes in tandem with Davinci Resolve, and grade mostly 1080p24 10bit footage. I may be getting into some 2k grades soon. Will these HD and HD+ formats choke a system like the Pavilion?

Thanks everyone. I went with an ebay seller and bouught a couple of new GTX285s for $430. I’m probalby going to also get a Quadro 4000 for the GUI card so I can get cuda support for adobe.
Is there any penalty for mixing GPU cards? In other words, if I put a GTX 285 and a Quadro 4000 in the Cubix box for GPU, is there some sort of load balancing algorithm that will run less efficiently in Davinci (as opposed to the cards both being the same model)?
