Any reason NOT to use GTX285s?

Per black magic it seems the GTX285 works best with the Resolve..
One negative, its a double wide card and eats up two slots in many configurations .
The 4000 without the daughter card is only single lane.

My second 285 arrived just today. 🙂 Now i just need something to stuff them both in..

GPU Memory – the Q4000 has twice the amount of RAM. This makes a difference when working with 3K/4K files. When using a complex node structure, especially with mattes, you might run out of GPU RAM.

I stand corrected. Per Rohit s last post the 4000 is now the better card for the resolve.

I see the memory bandwidth is:
89.6 GB/s on the 4000
159 GB/s on the 285

More cuda cores in the 4000:
256 in the 4000
240 in the 285

And as rohit has pointed out double the memory on the 4000.

Rohit will one see a performance gain switching from the 285 to the 4000?

Thanks everyone. I went with an ebay seller and bouught a couple of new GTX285s for $430. I’m probalby going to also get a Quadro 4000 for the GUI card so I can get cuda support for adobe.

Is there any penalty for mixing GPU cards? In other words, if I put a GTX 285 and a Quadro 4000 in the Cubix box for GPU, is there some sort of load balancing algorithm that will run less efficiently in Davinci (as opposed to the cards both being the same model)?

The Blackmagic folks hav been saying that mixing cards is not ideal; the load will be balanced evenly across all the GPUs, so faster cards may be handicapped to equal slower cards…

I believe the 4000 is approved for the gui.
My guess is a pair of 285’s for the gpu and the 4000 for the gui should work very well.

Let me know how it works. I may replace my 120 for the 4000.
