If only Apple had paid attention to awesomeness of how well Black Magic released the Mac version of Davnici Resolve last year. A lot of pain and suffering could have been avoided on their customer base.
The FCPX release yet again makes me fully appreciate how effective and customer-focused the Resolve team is.

Fair enough Gary. I didn’t mean it as a personal attack.
I’ve heard a theory that Apple will not write ANY I/O or third party support in FCPx. Rather leave 100% of that to vendors. Perhaps that’s good in the long run. But I’m still at a loss for how Apple could create a NEW – from the ground up – NLE, that does not even have built in EDL for legacy purposes. Seems very arrogant. But, that’s just me anthropomorphizing their marketing strategy for the product.
I look forward to using this when basic interface capabilities are available.

Gary,
I’m having a hard time understanding your perspective. I admire your leadership of this forum and think your articles and tutorials rock. However, the holes in this release are horrendous for most of the serious post community.
If they needed more time to implement proper XML, EDL, vFX framework, third party hardware, etc. Why didn’t they take it? Doing it the way they have has completely undermined my faith that their intentions for this product have anything to do with my version of Pro.
Perhaps you know more than I from your relationship with Apple. It would be really cool for Apple to let even a glimmer of their roadmap out of the bag. By their not doing so, in my mind they are placing FCP (with emphasis on PRO) in the same category as Color, Shake, etc. In other words, in Apple’s minds we had a nice ride while it lasted, and the future is now with YouTube and iPads, becasue that’s what they implemented first.
How is it possible to think otherwise?

Yes, this is a major disappointment. Sure FCP7 works, but only marginally. And that is the big problem. Many of us have been holding on by our finger tips dealing with poor support of new codecs and advanced workflows. Often that poor support has resulted in lost revenue from inefficiencies.
When I saw the dog and pony at NAB, I had a sinking feeling in my gut due to the total lack of info on pro requirements such as XML i/o, third part support, etc.
Many people are now saying, hey wait 6 months and Apple will surely fix all these wrongs. But its been almost 2 years that they have been working on FCPx and their development priorities have been to make sure YouTube and iPhone support is in the initial release. NOT XML, or third party support. Apply has choices they made. And they made them to benefit the iphone editors.
Read those tea leaves any way you want, but I would say the message has already been given. If they wanted us to hear something else, they would have said it. Apple, if anything, is very very good at positioning their products with the target demographic they have aimed at.
We are not it. I’m glad I have Adobe 5.5

Do any of the other beta testers experience significant performance issues with denoise? I assumed its just because the beta is not performance tweaked, but as we get close to release…
I’ve got 2-GTX285 GPUs in a Cubix. One node of denoise drops playback to 12-14fps.Otherwise, my findings are as everyone else’s: awesome. Just imported a multi-track feature project with XML: ZERO DEFECTS. glory halleluiah. Saves a few days of prep and cleanup.

Yeah, a Raw 5Dmk3 would be cool. But, I doubt the Canon HDSLR tech is going to take that big of a leap forward. I think the most we can really hope for is a revised sensor sampling algorithm which does not involve line-skipping, and a better codec. That alone will greatly reduce the 5D artifacting.
