just to add to the conversation. we have had this problem quite a bit on all four of our fcp suites.

and with P2, still no elegant back up solution!!

looked at the flowchart on the EX brochure, backing up to XDCAM HD disk seems like a good option, particularly when coupled with the low cost xdcam USB reader/recorder.

and if the workflow of passing the rendering to pro res works out…seems like a compelling option for our work anyway.

I just can’t get excited about P2…..but whatever works for your project i guess.

tried my own suggestion and it worked. is this the best way to achieve this kind of effect or is there a better way?

I’ve had and been using the workaround for the known issues since 5.1.2 and have been following the capslock and trash preferences instructions to the letter.

since going to 5.1.4 now the capslock and trash prefs instructions are having no effect, with boris either putting a black cross through the clip or not showing the controls in the filter tab.

I’m puzzled as to why this is happening and asking whether 5.1.4 created a new set of issues for BCC and FCP

I had already looked on the boris site, is the script you are referring to the one marked for Intel machines?

we are all power pc here, does that make any difference?

I can’t figure out the huge price difference either. I take it the new macpros have extra wide PCIe slots so as to not take up an extra slot with the graphics card fan?

only turn them on when you are doing audio work, even then it’s better to do it in STP or Pro Tools where you have more control anway!

My default setup is to turn those RAM hog waveforms off.

You can switch them off in user prefs in the timeline tab….and release your precious RAM for more important tasks 😉
