Cars lose value. Plus they’re not really a service. Adobe keeps adding value for CC subscribers. Not so with an automobile purchase.

I’m a happy CC subscriber with a 8 year-old car that’s been paid off for 5 of those.

And I own and use FCPX/Motion 5 as well.

I would think something’s just gone wrong on the card structure. Can you navigate all the way down to the stream/clip level and see an actual clip?

I’ve had things not show up before. Damn scary. (“Did I record any of this?”) Maybe make sure the card remains highlighted when you go to change that drop down? I’m guessing here.

Just out of curiosity…try making a copy of the VOBs and then change the extension to .mpg. Import those and see if you still get the little bump.

Easier to mark multiple subs off a single clip. Easier to mark just by audio (bigger display and waveforms). Once marked the info carries with the clip throughout the Suite. Comments, names etc. are displayed for you in AE and Audition for instance. Makes it real easy to set up an multicam clip of different takes a la FCPX’s Audition feature.

But one of the big things for me is marking select clips and transferring them to new destination (no transcoding mind you) and Prelude rebuilds a file structure with the selects so that’s easy to hand off or to archive.

I use Prelude for every edit I do now. Took a while to figure out all the goodies in there but it’s worth it. Have yet to come across any comprehensive tutorials on not just features but workflows as well. You just got to get in there and learn it. But man, it quickly becomes a favorite way to get things organized and familiar.

The only real flakey thing I’ve come across is that for AVCHD it needs to ingest any clip and have the audio conform before you can hoverscrub and hear the audio. So I just ingest the entire card, let it conform then delete the clips and start over. Seriously doesn’t take that long.

So Oliver, for me it’s load, mark, ingest, subclip, organize in bins then send them all to PPro to start editing.

Have you tried resetting the layout? When you say black screen do you mean not even a menu bar? Also, in Preferences/General make sure you’re set to Native Mode. Maybe toggle between it and Library Mode and see if it comes back. You have to set it then close and re-launch each time.
