I think I just answered my own question. When I initially set up the sequence, I needed to set up the MASTER audio channel as having 5.1 surround sound. The default was stereo.

I think the issue is between Any Video Converter and PPro. Premiere just doesn’t seem to play well with files created in AVC. I’ve also seen that sometimes, Premiere refuses to load a file created in AVC into the project bin and instead insists that the file is offline. All of the files created with Adobe Media Encoder work fine in Premiere, and the timecode displays correctly.

It didn’t do any good to change out the clip. However restarting the computer seemed to solve the problem for now. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before I posted to Creative Cow.

Thanks. I am using Premiere Pro 5.5.2 and have the latest driver for my graphics card. I am running a 3.07 ghz Intel Xeon quad-core processor with 6gb of RAM. I have an Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card with 3838mb of of total available graphics memory and 1024mb of dedicated video memory.

I would prefer to use AE for this but I don’t own it.

Thanks for all the replies. But I just don’t know that this is going to happen with my system as is.

Premiere actually had a QT H.264 output option. But some piece of hardware or software driver that I have doesn’t like that option because every time I try to output that way the computer crashes and I get the XP Blue Screen of Death.

I’ve also tried importing the original DV-avi into iTunes, but it just won’t import. I’ve tried dragging it in, I’ve tried clicking on “import”, and after I do it just doesn’t import the file. Is there a trick to that that I don’t know about?

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I’m not necessarily jonesing for mp3 audio, I just need to be able to compress it in a nearly lossless way so that I can upload it to a website. I notice that when I compress the video to Divx, the uncompressed audio portion of the .avi can account for nearly half of the file size.

Do you know of any free 3rd party converters that will work?

I’ve got Sound Forge which has an mp3 codec in it, but it won’t let me save a DV-avi DV as any type of video…either the program crashes or it says that my render settings are wrong. So I want to know if there’s a way to get my mp3 codec to work in Premiere.
