I am trying to edit multiple layers of text titles in PPro 5.5. There are truly a lot of layers, close to 20, so I don’t expect the video to run smoothly even though I have the playback resolution set to 1/4. However I should be able to edit and see one frame at a time in the program window.

My issue is that after I do one or two edits, both the source and program windows go either blank or black. No matter where I put the timeline, the video stays black in the program area. Double-clicking on video from within the bin (which sends that file to the source monitor) still gives me no video within the source monitor. When I minimize Premiere and then re-maximize it, both source and program monitors turn grey.

The issue goes away very easily after I close out of and restart Premiere. However it’s incredibly annoying because it means I have to restart Premiere after every single edit. Is there a way to clear the video cache within Premiere so I don’t have to do this each time?

Check your RAM and GPU usage, and if you have the latest drivers installed.
I usually get a grey preview window when I come back from a really memory intensive After Effects Project, but it goes back to normal after a while.

And try updating the software to,Updates will contain patches, which will hopefully fix the problem that you’re having.

Could you please post in your System Specs as well?
And if you are working with 20+ layers of just text,it’s advisable for you to work in After Effects,AE is always dependable to work on Typography.

Thanks. I am using Premiere Pro 5.5.2 and have the latest driver for my graphics card. I am running a 3.07 ghz Intel Xeon quad-core processor with 6gb of RAM. I have an Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card with 3838mb of of total available graphics memory and 1024mb of dedicated video memory.

I would prefer to use AE for this but I don’t own it.
