  • Ok! After chatting with Red Giant support, it turns out that the problem is some where in the XML round tripping, but we figured out a solution! Before syncing, change the sequences setting to match the frame rate of the clip with the highest FR in the sequence. So for my example I had mostly 23.967, which was what my sequence was, but I had one clip from my backup camera which is 29.97. So I changed my sequences settings to 29.97, synced with pluraleyes, and then changed he resultant sequence back to 23.976. Works like a charm.

  • How I wish it were that simple! Merging clips only works (to my understanding) if you have 1 video track with audio, and a separate audio track (plus, timecode is often needed). Since I’m trying to sync multiple video tracks, plus audio, I either have to sync each clip individually (using the Synchronize function), or just do it manually. Would significantly slow my process down. :/

  • Ohhh oh oh oh ! “Write XMP ID to files on import” sounds like it might be my fix! I’ll try that and see if it doesn’t solve my problem!

And I’d been importing the sequence via just the import dialog, but it sounds like using the Media browser might be the more correct way to go about it. I’ll do some more experimenting tonight. Thanks so much Alex!

  • I installed the latest version, but the problem persisted. The file actually eventually corrupted, and I had to recover it by importing the project into a new AE project. So it must have been a bug of some sort. I haven’t experienced the audio disappearing problem since.
    Thanks for the tip!

  • Ok, so I tried everything that Darva Campbell recommended, and I do mean EVERYTHING (awesome advice btw. I was sure one of them would fix my problem), and I still had this problem. What I discovered to actually be the problem was one of my multicam sequences. After restarting Premiere, I could scrub, play back, and preview video and audio, but as soon as I tried playing any of that multicam sequence, it all just stopped. So for now I’m going to have to do it the old fashioned way and cut between my two cameras by hand.
Anyone else had trouble with multicam sequences?

  • Ok, wow! Without the preview panel open, it’s quite zippy! I never would have guessed that to be the problem. But without it, it’s rather hard to go through my footage and keyword it based on any content other than the first frame. :/ I’d assume that there’s no hover scrub, right?

That is indeed what I’m discovering! So I’ve created a Keyword category for camera movement, lens angle, and some general content specifics that I think might be helpful.
But all this has me wondering, are there some tutorials/instructions on best practices with keywording?
    Thanks!

Howdy Guys! Just tags. I try to keep each clip to just one action or scene, so being able to tag the entire clip would work for me.

So I was applying standard metadata, and didn’t realize how keyword tags worked until I was about half way through my main folder, and I think I might have been doing those incorrectly (I didn’t separate words with semicolons). So with keywords I can highlight all the ones I want to add a particular keyword to, and then just tick the box, and voila! They’re appended! Now I just need to go back and harmonize all my keywords. I have a lot of ’tilt’ and ’tilting’ and ‘swing’ and ‘swinging’ sorts of duplicates.

So Alex, should I plan on primarily relying on keywords for my metadata searching? Just throw everything into them, camera movements, time of day, subjects, etc?
    Thanks for your help guys!

That’s what I ended up doing. Not as clean as I’d like, but I’m discovering that a lot of digital compositing is about figuring out what just works. Thanks!

  • So I have the Rode Videomic right now https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/917425-REG/rode_videomic_r_videomic_with_rycote_lyre.html, but the specs on its output are in a different format then those of the Videomic Pro, does this change anything?

I also just discovered that not only does the 6D have a built in attenuator, but also that Sescom makes a mini-usb to 3.5mm jack for monitoring audio. So in theory could I use this cable for monitoring, and a regular line cable to go from my H4N to my 6D?
Thanks so much for your help!
