Thanks to both of you for your detailed replies.

Nick you are right that the number of sit down meetings would have to be quite large. We currently do not have a dedicated member of staff for sales and I agree that we would need one to achieve the amount of turn around that we desire. We have recently started mailing out brochures etc but not a structured campaign like you are suggesting. That could well be a very good idea.

We have seen the issue of presenting come up a couple of times and have always addressed it with our interview style that is far easier that having to present. We do mention in our FAQ that we can arrange for a voiceover but with extra charge. We try to convince people that doing it themselves is far more beneficial as potential customers want to see the person they would be dealing with, see their passion for their business etc.

    Bill,
Your suggestion that people simply do not need this service at the moment is something that we are currently facing up to. It’s this decision that will determine the future of the Streamme service. Perhaps it might be better putting the same effort into finding more of our usual clients than chasing smaller clients who do not know they need this yet. We still very much believe in the product and what it can offer customers but perhaps not enough people are ready to make that jump.

Does anybody else have experience or knowledge in this area that could perhaps give us some more food for thought. We are approaching a junction with this soon and will need to make a well-informed decision.

Thanks again for your answers guys!

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

If you’d both like to give me your email addresses I’ll send you a PDF of the dissertation.

Frank, what is it that you do/want it for? Just out of curiosity really.

    Hi sebastian,

I recently completed a similar project for my final university piece, it was a 3 screen entertainment piece but revolves around the same concept and details different options and how I acheived the multi screen sync. I used AVStumpFL’s wings by the way.

If you would like me to send you my dissertation for the project I would be happy to, it may of use to you at some stage. It details everything I did from planning and shooting upwards.

Thomas who posted above actually helped me a lot with my project and I would advise listening to him. Multidisplays is a very confusing arena to enter at first, I knew nothing about it when i started.

    Hi there,

Could I ask what playback devides you used for that setup please?

It looked fantastic. Right now im finishing my 3screen edit for a university project that I’ll be using Wings for and triggering lights too.

Im interesting to hear how people acheive their rsults in other ways.

    Thanks

    Hi again.

Thanks for your answers there, very helpful.

You’ll be glad to know I had my first day in the studio shooting for the video and it went really well.

Just a quick question again, my contact at Stumpfl told me that you need very high spec pc’s to run wings. He said they should be at least 3ghz processor or 2Ghz dual core.
This to me seems wrong, I would expect the master pc to be powerful but the slaves are only playing a video. Surely they don’t need to be that good?

Also, is it easy and acceptable to run two screens of one PC, say a dual core intel pc?

I apologise if i’m forever asking perhaps obvious questions but because I can only have the liceneses for when I do the show, I have no way of knowing exactly what can be done until it has to be shown at my graduate exhibition.

    Thanks

    Hi thomas,

Your first comment there, I take that as you saying that it isn’t a good idea to make the lighting console trigger the wings master pc. Is that right? However if I was to have wings output the timecode to the deck I would need the show control license, but I would only need it on the master PC not the slaves for the screens.

For the smpte timecode to come out of the master pc, would that have to be down a xlr cable? I will check the timecode input for the console used.

Can I ask again about the TCP/IP hardware. To create the network required to run the slave PC’s for each video output, can I use standard networking equipment eg a normal cable router and rj45 cables. The same you would use to create LAN in a home.

I will be running 3 screens, so was planning to have a master pc and 3 slaves. Each PC connected to the cable router to create the LAN. Is that right?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Thanks to both of you for your input. My apologies for not replying sooner, I’ve been very distracted with other projects this week.

It seems to me like from what both of you have said that it will be best to to use timecode to trigger either wings or the lighting console. What hardware will I need for this and what sort of cables etc will I need?
I’ve never used SMPTE expecially like this so I need some real guidance here.

Also I’d just like to check this as I couldn’t get a very good answer from AVStumpfl as my contact speaks german. To control the slave PC’s you need a local area connection. I assume this can be acheived with a standard cabled router and ethernet cables right? I don’t need specialist equipment do I?

Thanks for you help, I really appreciated you input and I promise not to leave it so long this time before I reply.

    Thanks

July 31, 2007 at 1:17 pm in reply to: Multiple Firewire Problems

    Hi there.

Yes i do have update enabled. When the error comes up it usually (in this case) signals that the drive is no longer fully connected. Pluggin something esle into a firewire port seems to dislodge its connectivity. If i try to explore the drive when the error comes up, it is no longer accesible.

This also works the other way tho, sometimes when the hard drive is connected and I try to plug in the canopus adcv100, that will fail to initialise and connect properly but the hdd will carry on working fine.

It seems that my pc will only effectively run one firewire device at a time.

    Hi there,

Could you please tell me the settings you have used in order to make this work? Are you talking about SD or HD preview?

    Thank you
