    Hi there,
This isn’t specifically a PP issue but the original problem was fixed on here so I thought I’d come back.

A couple of months ago I was advised by cow members to switch my firewire driver back to the service pack 1 version to get rid of the delay that was caused by the sp2 one. It worked fine for a while but recently my computer is having great difficulty working with 2 different devices plugged in on firewire which never used to be a problem.
My external hdd is always plugged in but now when I plug my camera in I get delayed write file errors and it stops working. This also happends with my canopus adcv100. If they are both plugged in and on when my PC is booted up that also sometimes causes a similar problem.

Has anybody else had this problem at all or know of a solution?

    All help appreciated.

    Thanks

Do you have Windows update enabled?

Delayed write errors are reported whenever the OS tries to write to a drive and can’t. The ‘delay’ is a feature in many OS’s to enable more efficient writing to the disk rather than slow the application while a write to disk takes place.

    Hi there.

Yes i do have update enabled. When the error comes up it usually (in this case) signals that the drive is no longer fully connected. Pluggin something esle into a firewire port seems to dislodge its connectivity. If i try to explore the drive when the error comes up, it is no longer accesible.

This also works the other way tho, sometimes when the hard drive is connected and I try to plug in the canopus adcv100, that will fail to initialise and connect properly but the hdd will carry on working fine.

It seems that my pc will only effectively run one firewire device at a time.

Camcorders don’t have a setable device number, likewise with a ADVC, two of them connected to the same card can cause problems unless you have port addressable software like Scenalyzer which can address individual firewire ports, some firewire cards also can cause problems as they have a single port which fans out into an onboard hub to get 2or 3 connections on a card, this can also happens with MoBo firewire with two or more recept, harddrive enclosures can be setup by the system as descret addressable devices, but problems can occur when a camcorder and harddrive are connected as the system may treat them as the same device particularly if daisy chained or hubbed
