Try this:

Copy the Droplets to the target machine. Right click each Droplet/Show Package Contents.

You will find the Preset file located in the “Settings” folder.

Drag the Preset file into the Compressor Preset window. Create new Droplets from the imported Preset files.

Also, Log and Transfer needs the entire folder structure of the mounted disc image. You cannot drill down into the image and select individual .mts clips.

So mount your media … run Log and Transfer … set your ingest/transcode preference in the Action Popup … Log your clips … and finally Add Selection(s) to Queue.

My guess is that’s just a generic label in the Popup Menu that Apple never got around to updating or adding to. It’s just the aspect ratio (1920 x 1080) reference.

Why don’t you build your own Sequence preset(s)? Use Custom 16 x9 in the Aspect Ratio Popup.

The Soundtrack Pro filters are not accessible in FCP. Audio Unit plugins are, with a caveat: no native UI’s. Not very intuitive, especially when using a robust plugin. FCP–>>STP–>>FCP is your best option.

Select your audio in the Timeline and copy it. Spot the playhead to beginning of all tracks. Directly to the left of the tracks you will see the Toggle Auto Select button. Turn this off for the existing track and on for a new target track. Now paste. The duped audio will appear on the target track.

You can now select both tracks, head up to the Modify menu, and select Stereo Pair, if you wish.

Try importing your FCP Reference Movie into a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project. Expose the Podcast track using the Show popup menu.

When you select the Podcast track the Details inspector becomes active. Use the Blade tool to make your cut points (chapters). Add metadata, and for Image Source, select “Video at Start of Selection.”

Export:

– Exported Items: Master Mix
– File Type: AAC/Podcast File

Select the Podcast tab and activate Video Track

You should be all set …

To expand this further I believe it depends on your editing software and whether it supports AVCHD natively. I’m not using Premiere. However it is to my understanding the application supports native AVCHD/.mts files. I’m guessing you can navigate into the mounted Disc Image, select the .mts video files and import right into Premiere. Can someone confirm this?

Since Final Cut does not natively support this format, in most cases we run Log and Transfer to read the Disc Image contents, locate the video files, and transcode the clips to ProRes for subsequent editing. The point is Log and Transfer requires the entire contents and structure of the disc image.

Of course you can use something like ClipWrap to transcode the .mts files included on a mounted Disc. So if you are running Final Cut, there would be no need to run Log and Transfer.
