I am feeling stupid coz I can’t seem to find any info about the Log and Transfer process in the FCP manual (there are pages devoted to Log and Capture) or on this forum (the closest thing seems to be that long-winded “Workflow: 1080 60p from Panasonic HDC-TM700 camera” in the FAQ).

I want to know what it is doing “under the hood” – I am thinking that it is taking my AVCHD clips from my panasonic camcorder and transcoding them to prores or some other useful (to FCP) codec.

But where can I choose the how-what-where of this process ?

Also, which folder of the many folders in the SD card-folder-structure should I be choosing ? I’ve copied the entire AVCHD folder and sub-folder structure (thanks to info gleaned from this forum) to an external drive, but when I choose to import a folder, it does nothing for like 15 seconds (not even a SBBOD (spinning beach ball of death) or more and then when I am about to give up on it, it shows clips – and that lag actually makes me forget which folder I have chosen – I amy have to (GASP!) resort to writing things down.

    Any help appreciated.

    Michael,

Chapters 24 and 25 in the FCP 7 Manual:

    Transferring File Based-Media

Advanced Topics in Transferring File-Based media

Also, Log and Transfer needs the entire folder structure of the mounted disc image. You cannot drill down into the image and select individual .mts clips.

So mount your media … run Log and Transfer … set your ingest/transcode preference in the Action Popup … Log your clips … and finally Add Selection(s) to Queue.

    Thanks Paul !

Just the reason to upgrade to FCP 7 – now if only the bosses will spring for it. AFAICT, there does not seem to be analogous chapters in the FCP 6 manual.

I figured some stuff out for myself but I still have questions. I did not encounter the aforementioned pop-up where I would choose any settings or destinations, but at least I know that FCP 7 addresses it more effectively.
