I’ve heard really good things about OWC and the G-Raid’s… so all things being equal I’m the type of guy who will buy the cheaper one. But I haven’t actually used both so I can’t say how they compare head to head.

Also on your list – keep in mind that the RAID 0 configuration is going to give you much faster drive speed than their drive with a quad interface with only one drive.

I would take a look at some RAID 0 arrays that can connect via firewire 800 to not only provide you with ample amounts of storage space but can handle faster transfer rates as well.

I personally think the G-Technology GRaid2 drives and the OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro are solid drives. There are a lot of other RAID 0 options out there and with the OWC drive you can do 1TB RAID-0 for only $359 (https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/ME8SRS10TB32/)

I have 8 gigs of ram on my Mac Pro and I would highly recommend it – especially if you have multiple programs open from time to time like Adobe After Effects with Final Cut Pro. Your system will run so much faster for if After Effects is using it’s max amount of ram… you still have 4.5 gigs of ram that other apps can use.

If you’re comparing 4 gigs of ram vs 8 gigs of ram with only Final Cut open and doing HDV – then I doubt you’d see much improvement… I wouldn’t call 8 overkill though.

Have you tried media manager? From the way I understand the question this should be pretty straight forward.

Select your sequence and go to File > Media Manager. Set the drop down to recompress and delete unused media with the handle of your choice.

Now I could be wrong that this will shorten your quicktimes, but give this a try.
