Well thanks for that Craig. I thought I watched it in both QT7, QT X but a restart and a day later I went back to look at the problem file and it play back fine in both, whereas yesterday the first half looked good* and the 2nd half completely fell apart. Yes I spot-checked thru it more than once. Lesson learned, it was (is)hard to believe that the picture completely unraveling twice at the same spot was a playback problem.

Thanks Todd, figured it out. when I edit in an image file FCP normally creates an in & out (10 sec dur) in the center of the (source) clip but for reasons that are unclear, this img that was giving me a hard time had an “in” set right at the very beginning so there was no handle to sent a keyframe earlier than the In (in the Motion tab)

The other anomaly is that images normally auto-size to fill the screen, but occasionally they don’t or are stretched incorrectly.

Don, thanks so much for the detailed answer. I have to practice the technique but am already finding that when I go to re-Link or “re-Stereo pair” selecting clips on either side of a cut I want to trim, those options are grayed-out under Modify

Thanks Jeff these files are massive and the client is touchy about confidentiality. The good news is that the facility (that did the capt with FCP) also has an Avid. I asked them to do an a/b AMA linking to some of their Qts they did for me that seem to play in perfect sync vs the ones that are way out of sync.

Jeff, import seemed to work, sync ok. (took may hours) Pb via AMA link did not, nor did consolidating a sub-clip made from the Qt linked via AMA.

Thanks Jeff, I’ll try that later today, the Qts in question are pretty long. Sadly my sessions with the client start today and I had to bail on MC5 and go with FCP. In spite of that I’m determined to get to the bottom of this but baring some straightforward fix or workaround, I’m pretty disappointed that the highly touted MC5 can’t play something that Qt Player Pro (and FCP 6) can handle.

Thanks so much Jeff. I think I have the project set up right for the 1080i material but even in the play window (no seq, no TL) the AMA linked DVCPro HD Qt plays way out of sync. (Why!?! 😉 Ditto if I consolidate to a DVCPro HD mxf file.

However if I convert to ProRes in Compressor, sync is ok. But I’m not sure where that gets me re. Avid as I don’t want to transcode to DNx as per the coder/developer specs

It always was 1280×1080. And as I mention in my earlier post the the green dot phenom is intermittant. “new sequence and ….no green dot!”

As to the two edit systems, it’s ironic I’m far more experienced with Avid (though not necessarily with MC5) but that is the one that is not cooperating! Someone replied elsewhere to transcode to DNx but the programmers asked me to stay in the native DVCPro HD or ProRes. (Yes I guess I could do a blanket conversion)
