I looked at everything you’re suggesting before my first post. The problem in Vegas 8 Platinum stems from the fact that dvds are usually broken into 1 gig chunks. I “re-authored” the dvd to be imported with a free product called “DVD Shrink 3.2”, setting preferences to ‘not break into 1 gig chunks’. That instantly solved the problem without sacrificing ANY quality. From there, I renamed the VOB to mpg and dropped it on Vegas.
I should mention that DVDshrink is a good compliment to Vegas. You can re-author a factory disk or a recorded TV show, edit, (like, take out the commercials etc.) and render it to a completed disk in about 20 minutes!

So sorry… but toggling “ignore event grouping” has no effect (..tried that before my post!). Using “alt”, “ctrl+alt”, and “ctrl” allow me to move music within the envelope, but as soon as I try to resize the music, it affects the video portion. In fact, it splits the video at seemingly random portions of the slide show unless I try to resize it at the very beginning, which always moves the entire video and audio. If I try to resize the audio at the very end, it selects one of the pictures in the video at random and overlaps all of the rest of them.
I finally resolved the problem by moving the audio within the envelope using “ctrl+alt”, then splitting the audio using “s” at the end of the clip and deleting the unwanted portion of the audio created by the split, but there has to be a better way! The beginning of the clip is still only marginally acceptable!
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!.. Paul

Hi there.. Every time an mpeg is created or re-created, you are at the mercy of the software that is doing the job. The quality can be severely compromised! For best results, connect the camera to the computer using the 1394 connection. Open Vegas and use the capture function (File>Capture Video). Start a new project when the capturing is complete (File>New), select the explorer, find your new clip, drag and drop it to the timeline and proceed with your edits.
