Editing mpeg-2
sony vegas 6.0 and im recording footage with panasonic VDR-D150 that recoreds directly to DVD disc mpeg-2 VOB files.
every time to convert the files couse sony dosnt recon them? isnt there any plug-in to do the job? what about vegas 8.0? or do need to use miniDV cam?

Hi there.. Every time an mpeg is created or re-created, you are at the mercy of the software that is doing the job. The quality can be severely compromised! For best results, connect the camera to the computer using the 1394 connection. Open Vegas and use the capture function (File>Capture Video). Start a new project when the capturing is complete (File>New), select the explorer, find your new clip, drag and drop it to the timeline and proceed with your edits.

To pull the files into Vegas, go to File – Import – Camcorder DVD Disc. I believe this was added in 6.0c so if you’re on an older version of 6 you’ll need to update to the last version of 6.

Ignore my previous post about capture. This works but, of course, Ed is SO correct! …and importing the file his way is much faster.
