I’ve had the same experience. Frustrating. Somehow I think I’m missing a step or something. Then again it might be a FCP issue.

    Thanks

    Thanks Barry…
I called Panasonic support today and was informed yes if it’s 16gig cards, firmware update a must.
BUT you need a PC… I have 6 Macs in my studio nary a windows box. Took it to my local computer guy who updated for 20 bucks.
    Problem solved.
Hey Barry are you going to publish a book or create a training DVD for the HPX 500?
I would really love to have some reliable tips on the operation of this camera.

    Thanks again,

Did you up-res the 720 footage to 1080… or did you down-res the 1080 stuff?

Thanks again David for your input. I’m going to the dealer this week to compare the 500 and the 2000 with the 17×7.6 lens. I might have to opt for less resolution… it’s the 10 grand difference that will be difficult to manage. Though the 2000 is definitely a long term choice good for many more years than the 500… it’s a real conumdrum!

What lens have you been looking at?
I’m contemplating a Canon HJ17x7.6. Adds another $14,000 to the package … but good glass is always worth it.

Thanks so much for your response. Did you take the plunge and buy the 2000?
I’m about ready to call the dealer and order mine. Did you also consider the under/over crank issue? (something the 500 can do but this one can’t)

    Thanks again

    Thanks Jiri.
Do you know whether it will have a over/under crank option?
Didn’t see that in the prelim specs at the site you referenced.
In any case I’m really more interested in The HPX2000.
Have you found any unbiased reviews (The Cow, etc.) on line?

By the way I will be doing post productiion work with this camera.
We have an 8 Core Pro Mac 3.0 Ghz, 7gigs RAM; Kona 3 (for output, monitoring and at present HDV upres), 4TB CalDigit HD Pro and a 23″ Sony HD monitor. So we’re ready to go!

    Thanks again,

“Perhaps you should wait for new Sony XDCAM HD50…. ”

I assume that camera will use mpeg2 compression recording on blu-ray discs.
What have you heard about it?

    Thanks Dave
I think the 3gig limit is just the way things are . I spent some time trying out different combos of things only to come to the conclusion that full res isn’t the opimal way to view a comp of that frame size. 1/2 res is the way to go to get lengthier previews.

    Thanks again for your input.

    Best
    Paul
