whenever I’m ingesting footage in from a z1 or the HDV deck I get an occasional “stream Error” message that stops the deck and saves footage up to that point. I restart & move on but there’s about 5 seconds of footage I can’t acquire whenever that happens. It’s not a time code break and seems to be random. It’s not on start/stop, not on a new scene, not on swish pans … it seems to happen … whenever it needs to aggrivate me. Apple has to date. told me that they know of no known error, but it happens in FCP and there’s a screen that a programmer must have written, because I’m not a programmer and it’s there. It didn’t write itself. FCP is great, but I doubt it’s AI capabilities allow it to write it’s own code. (yet!)
    BUUUUTTTTT! I’m not bitter.
    Thanks everyone.

The light streaks. I know how to do that with film, but it’s not like the on air spot. is it motion? shake? How was this done to mix the effect with the live motion?
    Thanks

July 23, 2006 at 12:45 am in reply to: Mix HD footage with SD footage

We’ve had to do this a lot and soon everyone will have to grapple with it. We mix SD & HD, but we never try to fool anyone into thinking SD is HD. We box the SD, or put some other treatment on it so that it fits nicely into an HD frame without trying to double it’s size, which looks terrible.
I think if you keep your project HD, it’ll have more of a chance to sell + it’ll still be valuable when the whole world has gone HD. While our budgets aren’t huge, we still collect a premium for HD delivery and we’re protected for a few years … until SUPER HD with smell o’Rama takes over.
    All my best.

We’ve done this a few times, for backup more than to hand tape off, but we shoot standard 720/60p and drop to the 1200 in the field. We’ve done helicopter shots thru the firewire from the 200 into the 1200 and it works, it’s very helpful that the 1200 works on DC. All of the efx that you’ve mentioned work just the same as if we’re shooting varicam. I just read this so I hope it’s not too late.
All my best, feel free to cantact me if this isn’t clear.

If we decide to shoot off speed both 12 fps(motion blur) and 60fps( for slo motion after frame rate conversion) will this work with my transfer to 1200a idea? I would test the concept but I do not own a 1200a( will be renting for shoot).
WOW! Hope this is not killing you.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

the deck can be adjusted to downconvert to dvcam, in the menu’s. That has to be turned off. I don’t understand why anyone would downconvert when it saves so little (cheap) space but costs so much time. But, Im a freak!
