Instead of using my P2 Card to record in HD, Can I use a 1200a deck and firewire to record on set?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, and you can get 1 hour record time. Don’t forget the 1200a has a loud fan, not great for sound shooting.

    Chris
Thank you for the response. I do have a few other questions and I hope you can be of some help with them.
    Here is the situation:
I shoot mainly sports feature/docs with my Varicam and hand off the tape to clients for editing. In August I will be shooting on location with a Varicam on a water sports feature and the client wants to shoot HD in the water. My thoughts were to rent a housing for the HVX200 with 2 8gb cards. Audio will be mastered to the varicam shooting on shore. Because the client will want to walk away with tape at the end of the shoot I thought using a 1200a to dump the P2 cards would do the trick. Now for the questions!

Do I shoot 24p, 24pa or 24pn when wanting to output to a 1200a for normal film look speed?

If we decide to shoot off speed both 12 fps(motion blur) and 60fps( for slo motion after frame rate conversion) will this work with my transfer to 1200a idea? I would test the concept but I do not own a 1200a( will be renting for shoot).
WOW! Hope this is not killing you.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

We’ve done this a few times, for backup more than to hand tape off, but we shoot standard 720/60p and drop to the 1200 in the field. We’ve done helicopter shots thru the firewire from the 200 into the 1200 and it works, it’s very helpful that the 1200 works on DC. All of the efx that you’ve mentioned work just the same as if we’re shooting varicam. I just read this so I hope it’s not too late.
All my best, feel free to cantact me if this isn’t clear.
