Look for the small V shaped notches at the top of the event on the timeline. Grab the right side of the event and pull it to the left so as to collapse the event until all the notches at the top are gone.

For me V14 was worth the upgrade since I wanted the Mercalli V4 and the NewBlue .. Not a lot of direct benefit from V14 but I feel good that I’m keeping up with the latest version and I’m find the Mercalli very useful. NewBlue is another story. It runs, but still struggling with using it — need more time with it.

I’ve used V14 enough to also say that I think it is EVEN MORE STABLE than V13 (which already thought was very stable). — that’s purely anecdotal and your mileage may vary.

One more thing .. you can feather the mask to make it blend better if that makes sense for what you’re doing.

BUT — if stuff is moving around in the main shot your using and the mask starts to drift off the mark — well that’s another kettle of FX — you’ll need some motion tracking — which can be done (sort of — depending ) using keyframes.

Oh .. one other detail .. if you create a keyframe in the wrong place on the “mask” timeline within pan/crop, delete the keyframe.

If I understand what you want — put the main event on the bottom track and above it the one that has the image you want to lay over .. open pan/crop on the top track. Check the check box for mask. Use the rectangular mask to draw a rectangular mask and size it and move it into place.

Workaround is to stabilize the event and then render it to a lossless file format (like mxf). Use this stabilized file in your project. Personally, I don’t do this as I can generally work around the Mercalli banner by removing the Mercalli and then adding it back once the edit is final. This is not hard to do if you work in smaller sections (say 5 min or so) . It would be a huge pain in an hour long timeline with numerous shots to stabilize.

I opened a .veg file in the Hex Editor and changed one of the Project Media File names by one character. Then I did a “save as” to a new .veg file name. When I opened the veg, Vegas could not find the file I had renamed and prompted me for a new location. THis is where you can substitute a different file or just skip it so you can open the veg and delete the mp4 that is causing you trouble. (If that is the problem)

But if you have a legit serial number for VP13 then Magix should provide you with the download. But will they? So far they have not provided us with access to the downloads we already own!

If you have a Sony account this link https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/ should let you into your old Sony account and show you all the Sony Creative Software you own with serial numbers — but the download links seem to all take you to Magix.

Anyone know where all those downloads of old Vegas Versions went? I found some of them here — https://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/ .. But VP13 is not in this list.
