    1. Can you grab the horizontal bar of the FX with your mouse and drag the FX window open more? Or double click the title bar of FX window to reset it?

    2. Did you try to restore the default windows layout? View/WIndows Layout/Default Layout

    3. What is your system screen resolution? Can you increase the size of the resolution?

    4. Is Vegas Pro 14 your first experience with Vegas? Do you own VP13 or any other version? If you have other versions of Vegas does the problem exist in those versions too?

    5. Are all other programs on your system sizing things normally? Since this is a rare kind of problem, if it is not one of the items above, then it you must look to your system for the answer. It is highly likely it is a display problem unique to your system. I found one instance of a person who have had this problem with Audio FX but they did not post how they solved it. Likely a system problem that they solved. There is no record I can find of a Vegas bug that produces this.

Deform looks Deformed. Should look like mine. Something is up. The Deform window is truncated.

I know you de-installed and re-installed but did you reboot?

    Are your other FX ok?

    Thanks Mike for the tip.

I downloaded the latest build, 211 and installed with no problem. You need to re-register but that went fine .. I have no idea yet what has changed or been fixed in this new build. The download file looks very generic, it just says vegaspro14 or something like that .. but it is the latest build. Includes Mercalli, NewBlue and DVD Arch too but you can opt out of installing those. Not sure if any of them have been updated.

    Here’s the download page .. You’ll need your serial number .. https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/product-downloads/

László .. You’re a marvel. A PluralEyes hold out. I use to work this way too .. Still do on occasion when it’s faster to sync by hand on something simple. No matter what, it’s good experience to understand sync, double system and the use of sound recorders to improve audio tracks when the camera is not going to give you decent sound.

    >>Shift-arrow up

Never knew about Shift-arrow up. Terrific. That will be helpful when spotting editing points on interviews etc on stuff that’s been poorly recorded. Thanks!

Sync by hand .. easy enough if you did clap slates or something like it. I use to do this with the help of the waveform on the live track from the camera. Then I started using two sound recorders and three camera angles so I had three video tracks, three live tracks and two wild audio tracks to sync to each other.

Now I use a plugin for Vegas called PluralEyes. It does a great job most of the time but it still helps to understand double system editing. If you do a lot of this, PluralEyes, while not perfect, is worth the money.

I don’t hear much difference — actually I don’t hear any difference. But if you do, then keep doing the workflow that makes it right for you.

Are you saying that prior to using the “video” content inside Vegas, you can play this media in a media player and the audio is fine — but once inside Vegas, the audio somehow changes in tone?

Does this happen with everything? Or just with this particular media?

  • The fault may be with the Sony Volume plugin. It’s not very good. Seems very limited.

For increasing volume, I generally use Track Compressor, Output gain. Others may have better ways. I’m no audio expert.

As to why the Volume plugin fails in render on occasion, there are ways to bypass an effect, make sure you aren’t doing that. I doubt you are so I’m really clueless. But I don’t feel that this problem happens to me in any version of Vegas. SO it may be some system related thing with you.

I also do a lot of “home video” work. I always edit in sections also with my project properties set to HiDef like ” (1920×1080, 59.940 fps)”. My sections are usually 5-10 minutes.

I render each of the sections to “Sony MXF HD EX 1920×1080-60i Best 24bit audio” using the standard template. My understanding is that MXF format is lossless.

Then with all the sections loaded on one timeline I do my final render. In my case usually some MP4 template for upload to one of my TIVOs for viewing. I rarely make DVD’s anymore.
