For best results, render using the same properties as your timeline project settings. So if your timeline is set to 1920 x 1080, then so should be render template. In your case, I don’t think your render template, MainConcept MPEG-2 1080-60i matches your timeline setting. Your media, if I’m right, is 1080p. Use a render template that’s 1080p for best results.

I never render to Mpeg 2 unless I’m doing a standard DVD, and then it is to 720 x 480 ..

Try turning off GPU if you are crashing. Lots of folks report that this has worked.

Is this render for the 30 min sections of your Multicam edit? If so, you should be using a lossless format like MXF so the sections can then be combined for the final render. Again, render the MXF to the same spec as your project properties setting.

Also …. Is it all the same media? Is there some other media in the timeline (something that came from a different source) that could be causing the problem? I’ve often found that a single piece of bad media is the cause of render problems.

It sounds like you have “autosave” enabled in your General Preferences. This is adding to the load as you try to do the multicam edit. You’re trying to save the project while you are working on the fly. Uncheck the autosave in General Preferences and see if that helps. It may not be the total answer, but it may help. You should be saving your project regularly on your own.

Can you consider breaking this into smaller sections? Personally, I like to keep any timeline to less than ten minutes, then rendering to a loseless format and assembling the whole piece. There are many advantages to working this way.

I don’t use Multicam edit. But, I’ve tried it. I know how it works. IT sort of reminds me of the days long ago when I did some Television directing in studio with a three camera setup. “Ready on one. Take one. Pan left two. That’s it. Hold.. Coming at you two. Take two” We’d roll tape and do a half hour show straight through “live”. Later, when viewing it, we’d dream about being able to do things like film editors, getting that cut just right. Of course in Multicam editing you don’t have control of the cameras. The problem may be that Camera one has a lousy shot and you need to switch away to Camera two to cover. But I see the advantage to doing “live” performance videos this way, especially when working with time constraints.

Are you trying to go through the entire 2 1/2 hours in one go without stopping?

I found this solution for a problem when the FX window was completely missing. This might be worth a try.

“Close the program. Now press CTRL+SHIFT while double-clicking on the program’s icon to launch it. Continue to hold the CTRL & SHIFT keys until the program is fully up and loaded.
In newer programs, you will see a window that asks “Do you want to reset all preferences to default values?” Place a checkmark next to “Delete all cached application data” and then click Yes.”
