I’ve tried each option and learned the following:

1. Drag and drop the parameter with keyframes to the layer you want to apply it to. Just go to the inspector select the parameter ( say position) and drag it to another layer.
This applies the keyframes not to the group but to only the top layer in the group.

2. For the parameter you want to copy, click the arrow on the right side of the parameter and select “Show in Keyframe editor”. From here you can click and drag to select the keyframes and then select another another layer and paste.
This works but only if I add a keyframe to the group first and then paste.

3. You could also use the Match Move behavior.
I didn’t get around to trying this!

I don’t know why I seem to have to insert a keyframe before being able to paste keyframes to a group but it works anyhow so that’s all I care about.

Looks like it may be a matter of linking the Y positioning to the font size.

When I move the baseline the text moves up or down accordingly.
In effect I guess I want the baseline to be anchored to the center of the text so that when its size is increased in an FCP template the text ‘grows’ outwards, up and down, from this point, instead of just up.

Have been experimenting with this for ages now and still no joy…

I have the same issue and trying what is suggested on this thread doesn’t seem to work.

If I move the anchor point from the bottom to the middle of my textbox then it has the same effect as if I had just moved the base up. I still don’t get my text scaling downwards, away from the anchor point, when I increase the text size.

Ah, am I right in thinking that I need to insert a keyframe on the group’s parameters before copying the track’s existing keyframes onto them?

That seems to work but appears slightly long-winded?

Yep, I ended up doing just that but unfortunately it meant I still had to go through the remaining versions and switch over to the new version.
Maybe a weird bug?

Hi Dave,

This is the endboard of a promo which is one of many – all with small variations of text info within the template. Originally the additional graphic and text (on V3+4) weren’t needed and so weren’t included on the Motion template.

As I understand it, if I open the template in Motion, add the graphic and text and save then other projects which refer to that template will change as well which I don’t want.

Hi,

I have followed the tutorial but when it comes to changing the Link’s Source Parameter to the Source Text’s size I do not have that option.
The Compatible Parameters drop down menu only show Properties and Object but not Style so I cannot link it to the hidden text’s size.

Any thoughts on where I might be going wrong?

Rebuilt from scratch and works fine. Don’t think I did anything different so perhaps just a bug?

I just went back into Motion and added some blank lines under my original line of text.
As long as I don’t press return when changing the template’s text content in FCP and instead just click on one of the new blank lines it works a treat.

EDIT – Further investigation revealed it was an issue with the font (Gotham Bold) but the above fix was necessary anyway as client specifically requested that typeface.
