July 17, 2013 at 1:41 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas pro 11: No sound after render

    Hi,

Had this problem since upgrading to V12Pro. Only workaround in past was to RESTART PC and then open V12 and not do anything other than select RENDER. Then I was ok. If I tried to add or delete some video from timeline the RENDERED audio was GONE; not all the time but lots of times. I will try the above noted solution.

    Thanks

December 13, 2012 at 1:36 pm in reply to: Render Interlace or progressive ?

    Steve & Dieter,

    Thanks for your tips.

What is confusing me is why the preview is saying I am in (P)rogressive as far as Preview is concerned but (i)nterlaced re raw video source. So I mistakenly thought it best to Render as Progressive as far as the Project Settings are concerned.

The resultant videos look much softer than raw P2 videos; although I see minimal artifacts from interlacing. Thus, it is the resultant drop in frequency response in the videos that bothers me; I tried the FX Light/Sharpen Effect and that helps improve the freq response.

Bottom line I am mixing P2 ENG DVCpro50(p29.97) 720/460-16:9 as primary video on the timeline with multiple B-rolls from HD-MPEG & SD mini cams.

I need to make a YouTube & SD DVD of the final timeline. I have been using SorSquezz render the H264 YouTube files and MPEGs for DVD Arch.

Just bought VegasPro12pro Upgrade from SONY’s webpage at $99 ! It was a One Day Special via email for 12-12-2012 (much cheaper than the reg price of $149upgrade).

I was previously using Vegas11 with the P2 plugIn and was interested in the newer 12 version for direct P2 support.

Resultant videos are here: VideoByPatrick.com and YouTube.com/user/VideoByPatrick.com

The B-roll videos look way too soft versus the native 16:9 29.97p P2 video.

December 17, 2011 at 2:44 pm in reply to: Varicam H Flare adjustment

John, after setting the GAMMA and FLARE etc using the CLEAR filter how do you match the remaining filters ? Do you create 4 scene+lens files or just go with whatever the CLEAR filter has for the other three filters ?

I ask as the manual says to do a black balance and then for the remaining filters make sure the “black dot” is the same for each filter. I assume Panasonic is suggesting that setting the camera up in CLEAR is fine for all the White Shadings+Gamma+Flare but for Black Balance, each filter has to be checked to make sure the black balance does not change when changing filters ?
Would not FLARE also change between filters ?

    Thanks

September 30, 2011 at 2:52 pm in reply to: New Varicam ‘H’ owner, Settings questions

If I wanted to edit solely on a 29.97p timeline; how best can I convert my Varicam 59.94p video to 29.97p ?

I can capture from the Varicam using it’s SDI output to DeckLink or I can capture out of the Varicam H using the Panasonic Model 10 SDI recorder that uses AVChd codec.

Some times I have multi cam shoots and use several SPX800 DVCpro50 cams along with the single Varicam and two small consumer (Panasonic) HD cams that shoot at 1080p

All those videos are to be editing on a 29.97p timeline for mostly use on web with DVD versions as well. The DVDs will be burned at 720/480p and the web versions are uploaded at 1280/720p

What I end up with after the shoot will be lost of P2 at DVCpro50, some 1080p shot with small consumer HD cams, and the Varicam H DVCproHD via it’s tape or it’s companion Model 10 AVChd Recorder.

Thanks for any helpful input you guys might have,

    Patrick

September 19, 2011 at 3:58 pm in reply to: New Varicam ‘H’ owner, Settings questions

I just got my “H” off Ebay for $5k.

Question: What is the best tape ? Anyone know if the tape transport need rep[air (heads. etc) can one just remove it and send the VTR section for repair minus the Varicam body ? I am used to working on the P2 SPX800 internals but the Varicam lacks the easy processing card set up. The H instead has motherboards that are not that easy to remove (but doable) the SPX800 by contrast has several processing cards which are easy to remove, as easy as removing a P2 card.

Anyone have a SDI HD capturae card they could suggest I buy ?

Would like to stay with 720p editing wise.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

Just bought a H model and found this BBC Varicam settings article:
    https://downloads.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/site/hd_panasonic_hdc27f.pdf

My JVCHD200 fires the external FireStore even though there is no tape; why can’t the Varicam do the same ?

  • Panasonic is selling a much discounted AG-HMR10 AVCCAM Memory Card Portable Recorder that accepts the SDI HD signal (but no SD SDI however) and guess what, you have to use the mini stereo input of the device to get audio (from the camera earphone output).

The Nano however ACCEPTS the freaking audio from the SDI HD signal !

You guys give me encouragment; I am looking for a H version and would have no use for the VTR section. I have seen several for sale with dead pixels at 9db and higher. Unless I am wrong, a new “H” CCD is close to $700. I have taken a SPX800 apart and the CCD on it is within a cube like housing. There is a low hours H version on Ebay for $8500 but no takers yet. I was looking for more like $5k.

  • I have the same problem with my HD200UB.

I use tape strickly in cast if the Focus drive fails which so far has not.

When I need to capture I don’t use AVID MC, it is a waste of time with AVID ingesting
Group of Pictures HDV compression schemes.

Instead, and less touchy is Vegas 9 Pro, it is less
likely to pick up the drop out influnces that the JVC 200UB deck introduces. In case there is a drop out, the cut number in Vegas changes even though Vegas never notes a drop out actually occured. In that
case, I back the tape back a bit and re capture and then when your done capturing you
have to match the frames where the drop out was and make an edit.

It takes awhile to do this and it was op error that failed the Focus not the Focus a few times.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

PS: I agree, it is not actually drop outs, it is something the JVC deck intorduces in the group of pics that confuses the NLE.
