Daaaaaa ! You don’t think I did that already, many times !

It turns out that just spinning the shutter wheel only ignites an ON shuuter that is OFF in the DV mode. If you try to turn ON the shutter that is already OFF, the only mode that will read the spinning of the shutter wheel is the DV mode, all the HD modes see the OFF and fail to turn ON the sutter.

I am not you can match two camera’s default PRESET settings.

I have read that you can get close to it buy turing camera off, then put it in PRESET, and hold the white balance sw up while you also turn the camera ON. That resets the defaults. Then:

One thing I like to do though is turn off auto knee, turn off lens flare.

Zero db, do a normal white balance, then hold the black balance switch down for about 6 secs, and then again white balance again; this forces the camera into black hading as well as black balance.

Then shoot in the daylight a pure white card, then turn VF Zebras on and
adjust the IRIS until the Zebra pattern shows 100% and then select the Lens Shading Maint. menu and select DETECTION/Vertical Sawtooth. This will adjust the lens white shading and store the results in the camera. If you change the lens for another lens, you have to again store in the cameras the respective lens white shading file.

I like to control lens flare myself rather than have the camera try and guess what blance balance adjustments are needed based on lens flare.

  • As a work-a-round I create a QT reference file in AVID (which imports P2 files in order of TC rather than file name order) and then import the resultant QT ref file into Vegas and all is well. Patrick

April 19, 2009 at 9:31 pm in reply to: SD monitoring for HDX900?

I hope you don’t mind me asking but I have an SPX800 and one of the output options is a “Y” signal which of course is black and white luminance with no color. Question, does the SD camera SPX800 have an adequate color signal output that would marry with the “Y” signal to yield S-Video out ?

    Thanks

PS: I have SDI SD out, VBS (Comp) and Y, but where is S-Video out ?

I shoot the spx800 at 30p 16:9 Progressive and in that mode the spx800 by default adds a tad more shutter speed just below the lowest setting pf 1/100. I could overide slight shutter speed increase but that menu Diagnostic2 is not visible due to the past owner selecting it to be invisble; a Panasonic serice center would have to reset that Menu setting at this point.

Anyway, my S Vidoa saga continues to no avail.

I have Component SDI out SD ok, but when I try to get S-Video I get no chorma, I get just luminance. The settings on the D10CEA are Composite with YC and narrow blanking. What settings do you use for S-Video.

    Many thanks,

    Patrick

PS: Did you see that 17x-7.5 HD lens on Ebay ? I wonder how an HD lens would perform on the spx800 which of course is SD.

I think it was op error (me) as I had the dip sw swt at Componet for Y-C thinking that Y-C was component.

PS: Do you shoot with a so called crossover lens ? I just bought one and am disappointed how they do it, they just have an extender at 0.8 and call that 16:9 and results in the softness that extenders are known for at lower light scenes.

Hi, I got the D10CEA AJA convertor, using the SDI output from the spx800 I can get a Y-C signal but it won’t lock, I assume it should be narrow blanking ?

Hi Tom, Thats for your info, I have a question,

Is there a way to get S-Video Y-C out of the spx800 ?

I see the Y output function, but how can I get the C output ?

One menu selects No Component, or SMPTE or Betacam
Why do they offer those options for Component when the output is not component unless you have an SDI card on-board ?

    What am I missing /
    Thanks (again), Patrick

September 3, 2008 at 2:16 pm in reply to: Re:Sorenson Squeeze problem

I have a similiar problem, I make a QT ref file using AVID Newscutter, then make a DVD using Squeez 5 and althouhg I can burn a DVD using Vegas DVD Arch, I can no longer access that Aqueez reneder file by any other apllication, such as Vegas Pro 8 ! Thus if I ever have to edit those Aqueez renedrs I can not do so as I can’t get the Squeez MPEG2 file into any MPEG edit program. Patrick

PS: If I use Vegqas Pro 8 to enoce compress a MPEG2 and then burn that file using DVD arch, then I can acess that resultant MPEG2 file in other Mpegs capable editors.

Anbody know if the OSPREY web site scence files will work on a spx800 ? Thanks, I assume if they will work on a VTR section spx900 they should work on a P2 spx800 ?
