I would suggest sending this same post to Apple. They are much more able to do something about your peeves than we, of fragile disposition, are.

PS: you wouldn’t believe how hancuffed I felt when I first moved from Avid to FCP back in the days 😉

Better still, open a copy of the effect in Motion.(ctrl click it)

The rig for the amount slider is made of most parameters of the Bad Film Filter. Select the Rig layer and look for parameters in the inspector. All the way to the right of each parameter is a down pointing arrow. Click that and select “Remove from Amount widget” (or such, I am not in front of it). Save

Go back to FCPX and apply the Projector Copy effect, sans dust.

    hope this helps,

save for the first frames of the opening of the screen you should be able to get a decent track from Motion’s Match Move in 4 corners mode. Like most tracks there will be some manual adjustments but the bulk of the work should be possible with the tracking tool.

In fact, since you have a matte for the computer screen, why not track that? The b/w should get you a better track than the actual shot

January 26, 2013 at 1:11 pm in reply to: Long format project – anyone done one yet?

I did a doc last year, pre version 10.0.6, with around 800GB of material, some from XDCAM, some from DSLR and even from smaller digital camers.

My setup is different: 2012 iMac, 32GB RAM, Pegasus 12TB Tbolt RAID.

FCPX handled the project quite gracefully, if you except the times when it would hang when I was frantically looking for a shot, skimming quickly from one clip to another. may have happened 10-15 times over two months.

Other than that it never lost anything, even when the whole setup lost power because of a short caused by faulty air conditionning.

I am with Mathieu here regarding RAM, I’d fill it up to the gills.

Let us know how it goes

January 25, 2013 at 6:08 am in reply to: Skimming? Is it really that great?

Skimming to me has the same advantages that using a Wacom tablet has over using a mouse: you can jump from one location to another without having to stay “in contact” with the surface.

With a mouse you effectivelly need to slide all the way from A to B for the pointer on your screen to get to B. With a tablet stylus you lift your hand from A and land on B or thereabouts. Much more efficient.

With JKL in a Clip you need to play throughout the clip, accelerating through the bits you are not interested in, but you can’t altogether skip them; with skimming you can.

And if you skim with a stylus you also get the added advantage that, unlike with a mouse, you don’t have to drop your pointing tool to type on the keyboard, wether it is text or a command you enter.

the way things are going there may not be any tigers around in 5 years. Naming an OS after one would then be most un-cool. Apple will move to other species before that 😉

January 16, 2013 at 8:38 pm in reply to: X2Pro pulled from the Mac App Store

I was wondering why I could not upgrade my copy of X2Pro yesterday. App Store was saying that this software was not available. Wrote to Marquis about it but am still waiting for an answer…

Luckily I did not need it yesterday, but it has made me less confident of the whole App Store idea..

January 5, 2013 at 3:17 pm in reply to: FCP X Greenscreen Keying doesnt work?

Looks like too strong a spill compensation, hence the added magenta.

aside from that the keyer looks like it is working, just needs adjusting…
