And when working with DSLR footage (pre the new 5DmkIII) Use QTchanger. to add timecode and reel id before you do anything with them.

Above the source monitor is the multicam menu and in there you can specifiy what follows what. I suspect the audio is selected and is forcing it to default to a camera with audio.

Look on the various Avid forums and you’ll see its the Mac versions that have the most issues.
We run both at our post house and I’d disagree that the Macs have less issues that maybe FCP as much as hardware.

Consolidating creates new copies of the media files without re-encoding them to a new target drive. You can consolidate sequences and or clips. You can only consolidate media that is supported by Avid (ie you can’t consolidate R3D files or Prores if on a PC)
Media that can’t be consolidated can be Transcoded.

There are also other ways of collecting the media used and moving it to a new drive. On a PC MDV is a free utilitity and on Mac or PC Media Mover is alos very good. Unfortunatley Avid have never seen fit to include that simple functionality in the Media Tool.
With Avid media you shouldn’t have to tell the clips and sequence where the media is. Thats one of the big differences with Media Composer. It indexes all the media it can see (because it all lives in specified folders) and maintains the relationship between clips and media dynamically.

Re the project: In theory you can just take the whole Project folder and move it between systems. they are cross platform and pretty much up and down version tolerant (another plus over other systems)
However good practice is to make a fresh project on the new system with the same project name (This will ensure the media tool sees all the related media when current project is selected. Because, importnatly, all media generated by MC has the name of the project it was created in stamped in it!)then take the Avid Bins (the .avb files) and copy them into the new project folder thats been created.

It will work in MC without TC or reelid but if you have problems later it’s harder to unpick.

V6.5 has more re-link options but the simplest way when you have the final sequence is to make a copy into a new fresh bin.
Quit MC and add XX to the end of any Avid MediaFiles folders (to take all media offline)
Then relaunch MC and that final sequence should show as offline.
Now re-mount all the AMA sources used in the sequence (or all of them if easier)
There are options in V6.5 to make this easier but in earlier versions it requires re doing the AMA mount volume (or AMA mount files depending on the source) untill all thsoe show as online.
Select the sequence and choose file re-link. unselect the “use media from current project) make sure the bottom settings say any HD format. then relink. The sequence should now link to the AMA media.
save and quit.
Bring the Avid media files folders back online (remove the XX) and re-launch MC then transcode the sequence to DNX175

The advice not to work with the .new files is just plain wrong.
If you have early 5D files its best to use QTChanger to add TC and reel id.

No your original file was a non TV format size.
FCP can work st any raster size. MC can’t it’d limited to broadcast resolutions.
So if you have a non standard (Non TV) raster size then MCs not the best tool.

AMA the file and then transcode. Import is a legacy method and doesn’t use all the cup cores. AMA then transcode can be much much faster and you can subclip before you transcode.
