Or copy the sequence to an empty bin and turn on show reference clips.

I had this at one stage during the beta testing of V6 but can’t remember the cause.I’d suggest creating a new user setting first.
Then check timeline settings clip text.
If no joy try a new project and copy the bin into it.

AMA and Transcode can be 6 times faster than import.
If you do ever need to go back to the sources (Avid media gets deleted) you can just AMA mount and re-link the sequence. If you import you have to batch re-import all the media even if ony a small part used.
Also as I said with AMA you can check levels and change the AMA setting before you transcode (check “set source settings”)

Import is legacy now AMA is the way.

Normal route is to AMA everything (in batches) make selects and then consolidate the C300 media and transcode the 5D media. AMA and Transcode is way faster than the old legacy import process. Also with AMA you can alter the AMA settings for levels etc before you transcode. With import get it worng and you have to do it again.
And yes you really need to make a second set of media for editing as that’s how Avid works best with it. On a standlaone system I ofte work direct with AMA but if you need two sets and are roving AMA will be a pain.

For audio you can adjust clips between in and out points. You can set an absolute gain or a relative increase or decrease. look in. the top righted hamburger menu. in the audio mixer.

For video effects you can of courses copy the effect icon from the effect editor and save it to a bin and then apply to any number of clips.

Theses no real performance issue but its had practice.
Uf the drive fails you loose it all.
Use the shared location or external and a physically different drive.
Always backup the project to a memory stick or network location at the end if every session.

  • Video card or driver issue for sure. Just like they told you on the Avid community forum.
You can ask the same question on every forum but you’ll get the same answer.
Video playback is done via the graphic cards overlay function. stills and frame by are stepping aren’t so you will see still images ok and can frame step ok. But when you hit play Avid needs to play via the graphics overlay and that is driver specific.
Right card right driver and it works.

Some clues to the lion dance.

Issues with having Avid media stored on the boot drive (not a suggested workflow but for some situations needed) This relates to changes in Lion re permisssions.

Sorenson Squeeze installation and activation issues due to changes in permission of the system library.

And there are more. Basically Apple are adding and changing OS features and for non domestic usages (like post production) they cause headaches and the need for short term owrk arounds.
Luckily, currently most have a work around you can use.

Bus seqmentation faults are the errors MC seems to generate most often on the Macs for some reason….

I run a mixture of imac and PC systems in our training suite and it’s the Macs that I spend most time “fixing”

The DVD app is PC only. there isn’t an Avid DVD app.
One of the downside of going Mac.
And if you had issues on the PC then you had a slow or duff PC.
generally there are less issues on PC than Mac and the newer PCs out perform by a long stretch.
Have fun with the Lion dance and the bus segmentation errors ……

AMA has no support for Alpha at all so all alpha graphics have to be imported but everything else I AMA, make selects, then transcode.
    Way faster than importing.
And quite a few jobs we do the whole process via AMA .
But then as I’ve written and deliver an Avid media management course which is predominantly AMA based for VET I would suggest AMA !
