Even you can load AVCHD video to FCP, FCP does not have native editing support for AVCHD footage. You can use the Log and Transfer window to transcode AVCHD footage to an Apple ProRes codec or the Apple Intermediate Codec during transfer. But the ProRes or AIC video files become even big, even 10 times than the original one. Final Cut Pro does not have native editing support for AVCHD footage. You can use the Log and Transfer window to transcode AVCHD footage to an Apple ProRes codec or the Apple Intermediate Codec during transfer. So it is a nice choice to transcode AVCHD video to other ediatble video format for FCP, like MOV for FCP.

Following is the program I am using:

Yes, PS3 does not play AVCHD video files.
Video formats that PS3 supports are MP4, AVI, WMV and AVCHD is not included in its playable video formats. So you have to use a AVCHD converter to transcode AVCHD video and convert files to PS3 compatible video formats listed above.

As for AVCHD Converter, this post will give you some advice.

October 18, 2010 at 6:40 am in reply to: Importing AVCHD Lite into FCE

The main differences between AVCHD Lite and the regular AVCHD: a maximum resolution of 1280 x 720p in AVCHD Lite compared to 1920 x 1080p in regular AVCHD and a less-intensive compression method – both of which make the format more suitable for less powerful camera hardware.

Some video editing software does not allow AVCHD Lite to be imported and edited, including FCE. so you have to choose another program to make your Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 AVCHD Lite files ediatble in FCE

The following is the recommended AVCHD Lite Converter for Mac which can transcode AVCHD Lite video to other common video format for easily importing and editing, like AVI or MOV for FCE, Adobe Premiere. I have tested it and the output video files come out with high quality.

I have updated my Adobe PPro to CS5, it works fine on AVCHD video files, WOWO…
If someone use the lower version, you can do as I said above.

Premiere can not recognize and edit AVCHD video files. But it can read and notice some common video formats, like MOV and MPEG.
So you should do some conversion to your Panasonic AVCHD video files to MOV editable by Premiere.

As for AVCHD video converter, have a try Aunsoft MTS Converter for Mac which can decode AVCHD video files to any format you need, including MOV,AVI,MPEG and ect. with lossless of original video quality.

    Good luck.
