PS3 no play AVCHD
Posted by Tomy Nixa on July 22, 2009 at 8:47 amI Render video as type; Sony AVC (template) AVCHD 1920×1080-50i.
Burn file on DVD, copy file on USB stick; in PS3 play direct from DVD, play direct from USB, copy file on PS3 hard disc,
and every time, after 7.min of movie, sound play ok,
but video is slow!
Full video is 10 min.
I also try to render 1440x.. but is the same.
On my computer video play ok from DVD and USB stick!
(my cam: Sony HDR SR11; tv: Samsung LE40M; software: Sony Vegas)
Please, help me.Oudin Melanie replied 15 years, 6 months ago 6 Members · 12 Replies -

July 22, 2009 at 4:28 pmWell I don’t have any idea why it would play fine from a dvd and a usb stick but not from the PS3’s hard drive. All I can tell you is that sometimes we burn short projects as mpeg2 blurays on dvd-r’s, then on the PS3 copy the video file to the local hard drive and I’ve never had any problems with that method. AVCHD files rendered from vegas have always played fine too, but I don’t think I’ve done any projects longer than 5 minutes that way. Could you lower the bitrate a little and see if that works?

July 22, 2009 at 9:30 pmOk, for one you have to make sure you are up to date with PS3 software. Anything above 1.9 should be ok.
Next, you have to render using the Sony AVC codec. Whatever resolution you pick, make sure you pick a frame rate that fits your system. In the USA, pick 60. In UK, pick 50.
There are other ways if this doesn’t work. I haven’t tested this personally, but i am on the understanding that the current PS3 version is not as good as current blu-ray playback.
Incidentally, there are cheaper DVD players that are able to play AVCDHD files from DVD.
This could pose a serious threat to Blu-ray players, as – using the codec – a blu-ray player (and expensive disk) are not required.Hence the popularity of blue-ray rips.
Let me know how you get on!

PS3 play blue ray movie that i borrow…
I make video 5min and make bitrate on 10000 (my default is 16000) and with 10000 play ok! I’ll try make full movie with bitrate 10000. Do i lose of quality with making lower bitrate from 16 to 10? -

If you are using Vegas Pro 9.0, Sony has just release the 9.0a update which fixes the low memory error when rendering AVCHD.

July 23, 2009 at 9:41 pmNow i finish render with lower bitrate: 10 000 000 and my video (cca10min) is now 700MB (AVCHD 1920×1080 50i) and bifore is bee 1,2GB and more… So, quality is lower wery much i think…

July 25, 2009 at 4:51 pmI try everithing;
only solution that i found for rendering witch PS3 can read:
Render – Sony avc(mp4.m2ts.avc) – AVCHD 1920×1080-50i – CUSTOM – Video – Bitrate (BPS) – change from 16.000.000 to 10.000.000 .
Now, howmuch i lose on Q?
Is that “full HD”?
