Importing AVCHD Lite into FCE
Posted by Hugh Denholm on April 17, 2009 at 4:10 pmI have a Panasonic camera which produces AVCHD Lite video.
If I use Log and Transfer in FCE with either the camera or the card connected via USB, the video clips will show and can be previewed. But if I add them to the queue, they will not process.
There is no obvious codec for the Lite format, so maybe FCE does not support it yet? In the meantime I am using VoltaicHD, but would like to use FCE directly if possible.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Hugh

What exactly happens on your computer?
Try going to the gear popup in the L&T window and setting the audio to plain stereo. Also empty the cache in the same popup.
We don’t know anything about your system. Please give complete details of your computer, camera that shot this media, hard drive, how everything’s connected, are you coming from the camera or from a card reader or something else.
All the best,
Tom

April 17, 2009 at 4:52 pmOne more thing: what format did you shoot with this camera and what settings are you using in FCE?

April 18, 2009 at 1:32 amHi Tom
Thanks for your response and sorry for the incomplete information.
Camera is Panasonic FT1 capturing AVCHD Lite at 1280×720, 50P/17Mbps at 25fps. Results are the same if I capture out of the camera or with the card in a reader.
Computer is a 2.8 8 core Mac Pro (2008) running 10.5.6
FCE is version 4.0.1
FCE site on boot drive. Clips sit on a separate 1 TB data drive installed in the computer. When I add clips to the queue, the status wheel will turn for about 5 seconds and stop. If I then click on the status wheel it turns to a red exclamation mark and a right click reveals a message saying “no data”.
The preview on the right hand side of L&T works fine.
I have tried changing to plain stereo and clearing the cache, no luck.
Thanks again for any help.
Regards

April 18, 2009 at 6:05 amYes Tom, that seemed the most applicable codec.
Do you know if others are successfully importing AVCHD Lite to FCE?

April 19, 2009 at 2:54 amHi Tom
The only camera settings I could find to quote where “AVCHD Lite at 1280×720, 50P/17Mbps at 25fps” as per previous post. Not sure what you mean about FCE settings.Maybe FCE does not support AVCHD Lite yet….

The setup that you’re using in FCE. This is absolutely fundamental to being able to use the application with any success. What easy setup have you selected? If you have not set the correct one you should trash your preferences and then select AIC 720p25 and see if that works. I suspect it won’t, but good luck.
All the best,
Tom

April 19, 2009 at 6:23 amYes Tom, as you previously suggested on this thread, I am using HDV AIC 720p25.
Will just have to wait for an FCE upgrade. Thanks for your help.

Just realised that the book I am using to learn FCE is FCE Editing Workshop, by you! Excellent book!
