Posted by Alex Rinquest on April 13, 2008 at 9:44 amHas anyone tried to import AVCHD files from a Panasonic camera. We don’t seem to have much success in getting premiere to read card.

April 13, 2008 at 9:27 pmWell, Adobe people have said it will be happening. They just never said when. Some people are hoping for an announcement at NAB this week. I will believe it when I see it.

April 14, 2008 at 5:47 pmThat AVCHD to P2 conversion software saved my butt a few months ago…..
I’m looking forward to being able to read the files natively…. Maybe someone will post from NAB this week…
Frankly I’d be scared to purchase any camera that isn’t supported by Premiere Pro… on the ‘off chance’ that it might be supported….
I realize most of the new camera’s are all subsets of one another…. But I sure wish they’d settle on a standard that everyone could use…. and Read….. And Write….
End of Rant!!!! 🙂Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle

August 16, 2010 at 3:00 amPremiere can not recognize and edit AVCHD video files. But it can read and notice some common video formats, like MOV and MPEG.
So you should do some conversion to your Panasonic AVCHD video files to MOV editable by Premiere. As for AVCHD video converter, have a try Aunsoft MTS Converter for Mac which can decode AVCHD video files to any format you need, including MOV,AVI,MPEG and ect. with lossless of original video quality.
Good luck.

August 16, 2010 at 3:40 amJust to correct the last post on this. Premiere Pro CS5 does edit AVCHD natively and very well. CS4 was the first version of PPro to work with AVCHD. it did have many teething problems then, but in CS5 the AVCHD codec is imported and edited with the need to be converted. You will need a machine that runs close to the high end recommendations. As always the video products will perform best when running on a system built to adobe’s top end system recommendations.

August 16, 2010 at 11:13 amSeeing that the first post was from April of 2008….
At that time the answer was no, it couldn’t… That would mean CS3….
CS4 and CS5 is a different story… AVCHD Works fine…I didn’t know such an old post could be updated…. AVCHD has worked fine in Premiere for years.
