It might be an audio codec issue.
I suggest you try exporting the audio track as WAV file using VirtualDub.
(It can be found via Google. It’s free).
Open the problematic video file in Vegas, delete the audiotrack, load the WAV file and group it with the Video track.

Thanks John. I downloaded the trial version of Vegas Pro 9 and tried loading the clip and it didn’t crash.
Looks like it’s a ‘divide by zero’ bug regarding version 8.
I also tried it with version 6 and 7. Eventhough they only loaded the audio stream with no video, they both managed to load the clip without crashing.

By the way, the clip was downloaded from Youtube. It’s nice to know that it’s possible to edit Youtube HD videos with Vegas Pro 9.

I think he meant capturing from tape again so it will be encoded with a codec that Vegas reads without problem.
As far as I know, Vegas Capture can’t import from file. It doesn’t work like a converter.
Besides, I guess converting (decoding and re-encoding) the m2t file using a conversion util will take as much time as recapturing it from tape.

    Thanks Stive,
    I didn’t think that you didn’t know it 😉
I just wanted to mention the alternate method.

  • I think you should send the crash report to both Sony and the author of the script.

I have heard that Vista had some corruption issues regarding AVI file header functions. Any script using such functions may cause host application to crash. Have you applied Vista SP1 patch?

Stock effects clips from Detonation are usually already keyed and contains alpha channel data.
Select and right click on the rain clip, go to Properties/Media/Alpha Channel and set it to Straight.

January 15, 2009 at 1:08 pm in reply to: What codec for .flv files?

You can open FLV files directly in Vegas by using a VFW (VideoForWindows) filter.

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/

Install FFDSHOW and run “VFW configuration” (not “Video decoder configuration” which is for DirectShow decoding) from Start menu group, go to the Decoder tab, Codecs section, and make sure FLV1, VP6F are set to libavcodec.

(FLV files with H26x codec are not guaranteed.)

January 6, 2009 at 12:29 pm in reply to: How do I keep images from moving…

    I’d do it like this;

Set the frame size of your project same as the background image size, ex; 4000×4000, and reset all pans and zoom out to full view,
then save a copy of this vegas project as FullSize.veg

Open a new project with desired output frame size and import fullsize.veg and use Event Pan/Crop on this clip to zoom in and pan.

Yes, you can create circular shapes with masking tool.

While drawing a mask shape in Event Pan/Crop , don’t release the mouse button after adding a mask anchor point and move mouse to create curves.

You can right click on any anchor point to switch on/off curves by using Initialize Tangents menu.

Try setting pixel aspect ratio to 1 in project video properties and use these settings while rendering.
