February 9, 2026 at 12:52 pm in reply to: Best way to store files long term?

I have been using optical media for backups since 1997. I started with 700 MB CDs and later upgraded to 4.7 GB DVD+R discs. My favorite brand is Verbatim (Media ID: MCC), and I use ASUS DVD burners.

I always burn two copies of each disc. In addition, I keep all the data on a hard drive for quick access and another copy on Google Drive in case of a local disaster.

I don’t rely solely on mechanical devices or electronics. Even when used properly, capacitors, motors, and NAND cells will eventually fail someday. Optical discs, however, can outlive me if they are stored correctly.

  • Thank you!

Sometimes people don’t have time to read manuals. Especially people who don’t do video editing as a job.
That’s why they come here and we are helping them on forums such as this one.
Therefore I don’t expect them to ask questions or demand help like a pro.
When someone asks for a shortcut for a command, I just tell them . I don’t say “read the manual”.
They may ask the question in a wrong way. There is no need to ask them to rephrase it if you already know what they need.
OP was asking for a keyboard shortcut. It can be a key or a key combo. It doesn’t matter if it requires him to tap 1 or 2 times because (I believe) OP wasn’t specially asking for a 1 stroke key.
Since you already know there is no 1 stroke key for that, why not provide the key combinations at once instead of making him ask it again? Instead of telling him “that’s a good idea!” I prefer to provide him the keys.

It’s social skills Graham. Don’t be like a passive aggressive gov employee :PPP

Grazie, when I read your `help` replies this comes to my mind:

+ Hi do you have a pen?
    – Yes.
    + …
    – ….
    + Well… can I have it?
    – Sure, you can…
    + …
    – …
+ ok.. I need that pen right now.
    – why do you need it?
    + …

    > Ok , here, use my pen.
    + thanks.
    – … he didn’t say what color pen he needed!

    Take care 🙂

    Maybe it’s too fast?
Try increasing the scroll duration so it scrolls slower.

(assuming you don’t see any blur in a paused frame and it’s caused by your perception. If not, then check your video and video bus tracks for any leftover FX.)

February 1, 2020 at 11:30 pm in reply to: 24fps project or 30fps?

I’d choose to make the project in 24 fps.

I’d match project settings to the first imported clip, then adjust the frame rate to 24.
Set Smart Resample = Disabled for all clips used in the project.
If source footage is interlaced and you want to render a progressive video then let it Blend Fields.

February 1, 2020 at 10:47 pm in reply to: Have a lot of “black space” at the end of my project

    Here is a way to solve it;
Click on the timeline where you want your project to end. That will bring the cursor there.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+ RIGHT ARROW. That will select the space between the current cursor position (where you want your project to end) and the point where Vegas thinks your project is ending.
Hit DELETE key and that will delete any garbage events on all tracks.

This should fix it, if this doesn’t, then it’s a marker, not a clip.
Use CTRL+RIGHT ARROW to travel to that marker and delete it.

    Yes there is.
You can use CTRL+SHIFT+ArrowDown to vertically zoom out in timeline view. Keep tapping until all tracks fit in the view. (Tap CTRL+SHIFT+UpArrow 5 times after that If you want the default track height.)
You can use ArrowDown key to horizontally zoom out of your timeline view.
You need to have the timeline window focused for doing all that. Keyboard Shortcut for focusing on timeline is ALT – `0` ***zero , not the letter `O`.

With mouse, you can double-click on the scollbar handles to reset views individually.

February 1, 2020 at 10:14 pm in reply to: Vegas Pro render freezes at certain points.

    Maybe the problem is caused by your source video. It’s easy to test it;
Just try rendering your project in a lower resolution like 480p , using 2 different codecs, then test the playback of your output files, see if they still stutter…

If they do then it’s your system –> Upgrade.
If they don’t then your source video file is corrupt or it’s codec has issues with Vegas. –> Transcode into a new video file and use them instead of the original files.

  • I think the problem with 264/AVC encoder is caused by incompatible frame sizes.
Width and height in pixels should be multiples of 8 or 16.
I had the same issue recently with a video 1422×800 and it had a green bar on the right when I rendered it into a h264.mp4 file.
Problem is fixed when I rendered it again using one of the recommended frame sizes listed below.

Recommended width and height for videos with 4:3 aspect ratios
    960×720
    832×624
    768×576
    704×528
    640×480
    608×456

    384×288
    352×264
    320×240
    288×216
    256×192

Recommended width and height for videos with 16:9 aspect ratios
    1920×1080
