Media100 also finally added a second viewer, after years of requests.

I think a second viewer is great, but not all the time. It would be nice to be able to have one like M100 does now, open it when you need it. It would also be nice if it had the capability of keeping multiple screen shots, possible from a popup window for CC etc.

Motion will do both those animations easily.

    Great job Logan.

I agree totally with your opinion that once we have real video monitoring with possibility of external scopes and playback to tape (this is already possible with Kona and Matrox though cumbersome) FCPX will be a fine editor.

Yes it is very different and very young with lots of rough edges so far. But it really is just about telling the story, not the tools you use. I have used FCP from v1 to v7, but I have always preferred working in M100 because it is faster w/o rendering, so I can try more versions faster. I find FCPX is now equally fast and with the new hardware a much less expensive set of tools than any other system I can think of. Soon I will be able to use my Matrox and Kona interfaces and then I will probably start using FCPX as my main NLE here at Westside A V.

I really like the DB and organizational aspect of FCPX. I plan to migrate all our stock footage into FCPX as a main library for all our footage. And I will try to use it for all new projects. I really like where FCPX seems to be heading. Metadata and searchable media is great.

Mostly it is just about telling the story as I stated above, and the CC and audio tools in FCPX are better than M100 and FCP7 in my opinion. And you will still be able to export to other apps if you need more sophisticated DAW or CC.

I think Apple Inc is on the right track, once again lowering the price and rolling media management into NLE’s in a revolutionary way. I think some people are just uncomfortable with change.

To uninstall drag the FinalCutProApp to the trash and empty trash.

Yes this happened to me as well.

I contacted Apple and they admitted that this is happening to a number of users.

The solution is to uninstall FCPX and then the 10.0.1 can be installed from the AppStore.

    This worked perfectly for me.

Post samples of before and after applying stabilizing.

So we know what is up.

I have had pretty good luck playing with it.

Once the files have been re-wrapped to .mov, this is very quick. You can then import them into M100 and transcode to Prores or any other M100 supported codec.

It is a 2 step process. Use Sony XDcam transfer to re-wrap and then import into M100 in M100.

There are other work flows as well but this is the simplest way.

I work a lot with XDcam and EXcam files both from a NanoFlash and EX3/EX1R cams.

The only way to work with those in M100 is to transcode either during import to M100 or before importing.

From the NanoFlash you don’t need to rewrap, they are already .movs. They can be up to 280mb/s vry high quality.

From EXcams 35mb/s you have to rewrap using FCP and Sony plugin or Sony utilities.

I often use FCP7 to preview and select shots I want to import into M100 and export them as Prores422, then they quickly import into M100. You can do this in Sonys XDcam transfer as well.

I would love to see native XDcam in M100, but it is not here yet.

August 4, 2011 at 10:43 am in reply to: exporting 16×9 problem

I usually do an export by reference (or self contained) and then use Sorenson or Compressor to do a conversion, to whatever pixel size I need.

I take it this is for computer viewing.

NTSC D1 16:9 is 720×486, the picture is just stretched to make the aspect ratio, this is what is used for tape, or DVD. 720×480 is used for a DVD 16:9. HD is square pixels so there the ratio is 16:9 (1920×1080), but that is not the case with SD.

M100 is the easiest to learn and fastest NLE around. And it supports XML and EDL’s.

It is $595 currently, I think. And there is a free 14 day trial.

I still think FCPX will be a great tool in while but for now M100 rules.
