Have you tried deleting the Preferences in User/Library/Preferences/Media100 Suite Preferences.

You can toss the whole folder in the trash.

If this does not work try repairing the permissions with Disc Utility.

Even better run DiscWarrior on your discs.

In a way bars are not really necessary the way FCPX works, right now. Once we get NTSC/PAL IO to decks monitors scopes etc. Then it will be very necessary to set up monitors and to deliver to tape.

I still like to slate and put T&B on every video I upload as an H.264 or MPEG, I am hoping that stations that use FTP or similar delivery of commercials actually check the video. And I think most of them do. I have never been asked to just upload a 30 sec spot w/o Black slate T&B and Black at the end of the spot. I treat them as if they are on tape and check them on external scopes just like I would if I go to tape.

So right now I would not deliver anything from FCPX direct for broadcast w/o exporting into M100 or FCP7 just to check/fix levels, before printing to tape or compressing for digital delivery. I would actually use M100 for doing the slate and T&B etc.

But for KIOSK/internet productions I think it is fine just to use the scopes in FCPX to “legalize” the video. Possible even DVD/Bluray, but I like to see those on external Pro monitors and scopes before I commit to having them reproduced, or burning a bunch on our “Robot” BluRay/DVD burner/printer.

You can easily create them in Motion and save as a FCPX generator. Then they are available in FCPX.

July 20, 2011 at 1:25 am in reply to: First official OSX Lion SUCKS thread

I would not dream of putting it on a production machine.

But I will certainly try it out in the next few weeks as I have time. Just like I am trying FCPX on non production machines.

So far I really like FCPX, though it is not yet ready for prime time. I am experimenting with it. I think in a year or so it will b very good and I bet Lion will be great as well.

So far every Apple major change (with a very few exceptions) has been great, but it usually takes a while to be ready for serious work. Like all other SW/HDW I have used in the last 4 decades.

    Why be so negative?

July 18, 2011 at 12:02 pm in reply to: FCP X and Matrox MXO2

I had a conversation with a Matrox tech a few weeks ago and he gave no time table but he assured me that Matrox would have a “pro” monitoring solution for FCPX in the future.

For him or me to say X # months would just start rumors so he just said they are working with Apple on a solution.

Matrox has a Thunderbolt interface for the MX02 coming out in the next month or so. I don’t know if this will effect how FCPX will work with the MX02, but it is interesting.

I think patience is a virtue with new products. Why live on the bleeding edge when your old system still works.

If in a year FCPX does not have NTSC/PAL monitoring or some type of XML/EDL support then one can think of going somewhere else. In the mean time I am just learning as much as I can about the new FCP. FCP never was my main editor, but FCPX has me very intrigued.

  • I am just starting a project for a kiosk at a visitors center. It will use HD and SD footage from many different sources EXcams, AF100, 5dmkII, 7D HDV and some DVcam and DV footage as well as a lot of stills.

I have already been prepping the project. The favorite and keyword functions are great. I plan to use Motion a lot in this project as well.

I am doing this as a test. Normally I would have done this in M100 and AE, possible some work in FCP7 on the XDcam footage.

This is the first version of FCP that really has me interested. I never liked FCP, always preferred M100 and AE.

The finished video will be looping on a 70″ screen using a BM SSD player. The cool thing is I can use the HDMI output to the 70″ screen as my second monitor from my MiniDisplayPort, so I get a pretty good idea of what it will look like when done.

I normally use a Kona or an MX02 for this, and they will work soon as well I hope. I will post if I run into trouble. This project will take about 60 days or so to finish.

One word of caution is don’t update your computer to 10.6.8 as this will render old M100 codec broken.

This will hopefully be fixed soon. So if you want to use old M100 codecs like lossless. Stay with 10.6.7 or less.

Just mount the drive with the new version on the original computer. And it will available in the original computer.

All HD’s that are mounted show all events and projects it contains in FCPX.

This way you an organize projects by clients by having multiple drives/RAIDS/partitions and mount only the pertinent drives/RAIDS/partitions on the computer you want to work on.

    Check out M100.

It is fast and elegant, almost never needs rendering, and it has a really cool multi-cam. It works with AJA Matrox and BM.

And now it is part of Boris so the tech support is very good and personal.

The price just dropped to $595.00. There is a fully functioning 14 day trial as well.

This is and has been my favorite NLE for 15 years.

July 6, 2011 at 9:59 pm in reply to: Did anyone notice this yet? – music licensing

I have extensive “royalty free libraries” of music and sfx.

I have been keeping them in Itunes for years now. It is really easy to categorize and add notes like what clients use, with ratings. This is metadata.

So integration with Itunes is great. Once we can access the metadata ratings etc like the event manager it will be fantastic.
