I now there is not supposed to be a memory problem with these batteries.
But I still think LION batts will loose capacity over time if you only run them down 25% or so for years.
So I run them down all the way once a month or so. This really applies to laptops.
I got 2 of the longer running batts for the cam, and use the orig small batt for the HD recorder on the EX3, and that uses only 25% of the power in 4 hrs of recording, so it never really drains all the way.
I actually make a point of running that battery in cam when not using HD recorder, just to drain all the way down.
Maybe I am being over cautious but it is not that hard to run batts all the way down once a month. I mark my batts with the last drain date, so I can keep track.

The way I see it, RAID is for editing. I use a RAID level 5 12 drive SAS system very fast and redundant with hot spare. I have current projects on it, and a few where we are doing new versions often.
I use FW 800 drives for archive storage of projects files and footage (2 sets) in a different building. This is for quick reloading onto RAID and BU of current large projects (we have some that we have been working on for years).
All non tape footage is burned to DVD single layer, dual layer or Blueray depending on how much footage there is (4.3, 8, 23 or 46GB). I see this as my “tape” library, we also have hundreds if not a thousand or so Beta, DVcam, DVCpro, and even MiniDV and HDV tapes stored in the same climate stable room. Most of them (OK less than half) are also in Databases for searching. But all new solid state footage goes in the DB.

You need to have both BPAV folders mounted in the transfer app and then import the smi clip that spans both volumes.

A few years ago I had to use some Super8 film footage on a no budget project.
I just set up the Projector and camera next to each other and used a non reflective matte board to project on. A projection screen was too reflective and produced a hot spot.
This was back i the Betacam days so I only had 60i. I was surprised at how well it came out, a little flickery but no worse than the projection.
Today I would set up the same projector cam setup and test a bunch of frame rates and shutter speeds, while viewing SDI out on a reference monitor. Most projectors drift a little so you may have to try a few takes of each scene.

I use a MBP to offload cards to a FW800 drive.
I then hook that drive to my MacPro used for editing. The FW 800 is fast enough to edit with. But at some point I do convert foootage to ProResHQ and that is rendered to my 12TB SAS raid.
I find this quick and convenient. I also back all raw SxS files onto Blueray DVD’s and enter Card descriptions into a FMP database with short clips or stills for searching in the future.

We got a MkII a few weeks ago, our reg cameras are EX3, Z1 and DSR500’s
We do a lot of still photography too, so we have 3 Canon SLR’s and about a dozen Canon lenses from 17mm to 800mm, most of them L lenses.
So I was really curious about this cam. What the heck we got one.
When you first use it it is really confusing and there are hundreds of posts on forums praising and damming the cam.
It is not a video camera, what I think is, its a great tool to get shots that would be impossible on a realistic budget. Fantastic DOF, super wide and long high quality lenses, fantastic low light capability.
A good set of ND filters is the first thing you need. If you are willing to spend some time experimenting without getting frustrated using some tricks you will be well rewarded, but if you expect it to be an easily controlled video cam, you will be disapointed.
You also have to do a lot of post tweaking, it almost always shoots blacks at -20 IRE and whites at +120 or more. The files open right in Color and can easily be conformed.

FCP 6.0.3 works fine with QT 7.5 and XDcam EX works great with it.
I did not install latest FCP because it requires QT 7.5.5, and that version has lots of problems.

Have you tried removing lens and checking pins to make sure you have good contacts.
That is about all I think you can do yourself. If camera still does not work right you will have to take it back to the dealer for a replacement.
I had issues with my EX3 lens, zoom would not work slow, it was very jerky. I got a replacement lens from Sony, it took about 10 days. My dealer lent me a spare lens while mine was at the Sony service center.
When I got the new lens I had to set the Back Focus and it worked perfectly. I actually did it outdoors with a person holding BF chart, I was amazed that it worked.
I have not had any issues since.

I use the Bracket 1 on my EX3, it works very well.
I even use it in conjunction with a rail system (Cavision) for mattbox or Q-vision Teleprompter, I put a custom post on the bracket to hold the top mounted monitor.
It basically makes the EX3 accept anything a full size camera does.

Most of the times I hand off footage to clients at the end of a shoot they want Beta SP.
I have for years now kept them happy by fedexing a beta tape overnight, it will beat them back to the suite. And keeping the master for “safety”. Clients like this, and more often than not I will also land some post production from the shoot.
For really time critical stuff we use FTP and compressed uploads or posts on our server.
