Premiere Pro includes an Auto Reframe feature that will do this all automatically. After you create the 1:1 sequence, you can then go in shot-by-shot and make adjustments if you need to offset the reframing. You can also override the AI-generated keyframes and manually create your own if needed on some specific shots. Also any graphics may need to be modified to fit properly.

Anyone seeing this again? All platforms for me on iCloud/Mac/Me mail have become brutally slow since the most recent OS update (11.4). This is across multiple Macs, iPhone, and iPad. It’s seriously a roadblock for getting work done. Anyone else seeing this? It’s never been a good service, but has become useless for me in the past few days.

You can’t import a project. You can transfer a sequence. From Premiere Pro, export an XML of the main sequence. Then use SendToX from Intelligent Assistance to convert Premiere’s XML format into FCP’s FCPXML format. Then import the new FCPXML into a Final Cut Pro event.
PS: Some things may or may not translate correctly. Consult the info from Intelligent Assistance for details.

A follow-up. This is on Big Sur, too. Files are all edited and exported. These are H264 MP4 either directly exported from Premiere or encoded from ProRes masters via Media Encoder. They play fine in Switch. This happens on both local and network drives and machines with and without an audio interface for external audio. These iMacs do not have external video displays. MP4 files can be CBR or VBR encoding. 1080 or 720.

You update from the CFT app itself. You can launch it from Applications. Or it’s open after you use it in FCP. Close FCP and you’ll see the CFT icon on your top Mac menu bar. There’s a pulldown and one item is to check for updates. That should find a newer version and download/install the latest build.

FYI – CFT was updated to 1.1 today with a number of new features, including scopes and BRAW metadata.

I’ve reviewed it, done testing with it, and used it for a handful of clips on real projects. It works well and is in active development. So expect it to get even better in the months ahead. You can try it out as a trial (with watermark) if you want to see whether it fits your workflow. Naturally for FCP users, it’s either that or use Resolve to first transcode the files. Your comfort with Resolve, workflow, and quantity of material will likely affect your decision.
