ProRes 422, 4K or 1080 should be a piece of cake. If you are just working with small media drives, I’m partial to the Samsung T7 SSDs. If you want a RAID, Promise makes good stuff.

This year is still going to be very underwhelming compared to pre-Covid attendance levels and show size. There’s no South Hall. So I wouldn’t put it past the events staff to do a bit of name dropping to drum up attendance 🙂

Premiere Pro will work fine on that machine. Media performance will depend on the codecs you use and the speed of your media drives. FCP tends to be a bit more fluid with optimized media, but Premiere is fine, too, with most media formats. In fact, it will support quite a few formats not supported by FCP.

Just to be clear, there is zero corroboration to this one single blogger’s claim that Apple will exhibit. “Attending” is not exhibiting and there’s a huge aspect to NAB that’s separate and apart from the show floor. Like meetings and presentations for NAB members who are media and tech execs. Remember, Apple is now also a streaming company, i.e. they are in the “broadcast” business, which is NAB’s main purpose.

There was an NAB splash page listing Apple as a company attending, along with Epic Games, CBS, etc. These are companies (of thousands) who may attend. This is not a list of exhibitors. Apple has now been removed from that splash page and they don’t show up anywhere on the exhibitors’ listing. Error? Clickbait to attend? Who knows?

Apple personnel have always attended, regardless of whether there was a booth. In some years they had a keynote as part of PPW and in some years they had an off-site demo suite.

So, while this rumor might turn out to be true, don’t get your hopes up 🙂

This is just a shot in the dark, but I wonder if there’s a conflict by using “Projects” in the actual event name. What happens if you rename your “Projects” event to something else, like “Original Edits?”

I don’t understand the original question. What software do you think you need, since you are editing in Premiere Pro? The current version has an excellent captioning feature.

Our process is to use Rev.com to create the captions. These are human-reviewed and you can edit the captions easily online and then download the desired format. If we need faster, automated turnaround, then we use Simonsays.ai. Same deal, except you’ll have to do a bit more manual editing to fix errors.

In both cases, download the file in the desired format and import that into Premiere. Create a caption track in your Premiere Pro sequence and drag-and-drop the caption file at the proper start point. You can do further edited of the text, formatting, and edit point in Premiere.

When you export, you can choose to embed (closed captions), export a sidecar file (.srt), or “burn” into the video (subtitles).

Going back to the original issue, I would suggest getting a FW to Thunderbolt adapter to go from your DV deck to the TB input of your iMac. Make sure you have the right versions of each. Then see about capturing in something other than Premiere. You may actually have better luck with iMovie or QT. Definitely FCP is that’s installed.

I remember reading about the project, but never saw it. Trumbull also did the films for the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas when it opened. These were part of the in-house entertainment. As I recall those were done at 48fps, because the budget didn’t allow for the licensing fees associated with Showscan, even though Trumbull was involved.

I have had some compatibility issues with ExFat and hard drives. It’s really a format originally intended for thumb drives. Native Windows NT can be read on Macs, but not written without extra software – either Tuxera or Paragon. I personally use Tuxera to write Windows NT formatted drives and it has always worked well. It installs as an OS extension and once installed, the option shows up in the Disk Utility pulldown menu.

One thing I’ve run into with the “free” versions is that they are locked to that brand of drive. If you later try to use it to format a different brand of drive (even if it’s the same parent company), it may not work.
